Chapter 12 - The Trial of the Century

The Manhattan Federal Courthouse was swarmed by hundreds of international reporters, broadcast vans, and cheering crowds of supporters on the opening day of the trial.

The courtroom was packed to maximum capacity, with leading titans of industry, federal judges, and high-society figures filling the gallery.

Judge Harrison, a legendary federal jurist known for his merciless stance on corporate corruption, presided over the bench.

At the defense table, Damian and Bianca sat separated by two armed federal marshals, refusing to even look at each other.

Their defense attorneys spent four days presenting desperate motions, claiming diminished capacity, mutual manipulation, and lack of direct intent.

Every single argument was demolished by Marcus Cole with cold, mathematical precision.

The prosecution entered into evidence the dark-web cryptocurrency trails, the intercepted text messages detailing the dosage schedules, and the hospital records proving Damian declined the emergency surgical authorization.

The jury deliberated for less than ninety minutes.

When the jury foreperson stood up to deliver the verdict, the courtroom fell into a dead, absolute silence.

“On Count One: Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Murder using a Chemical Weapon… we find the defendants, Damian Thorne and Bianca Caldwell, GUILTY.”

“On Count Two: Aggravated Felony Bigamy… GUILTY.”

“On Count Three: Grand Corporate Embezzlement and Securities Fraud… GUILTY.”

Bianca let out a piercing shriek and collapsed face-first onto the defense table, hyperventilating as marshals secured her arms.

Damian sat paralyzed, staring at the polished oak floor, his soul completely emptied of life.

Judge Harrison adjusted his glasses and looked down at the defendants with searing moral condemnation.

“In my thirty-five years on the federal bench, I have rarely witnessed such depraved, calculating cruelty,” Judge Harrison stated, his voice booming through the vaulted hall.

“You attempted to execute a devoted wife and business partner to satisfy your insatiable greed and vanity.”

“Bianca Caldwell, you are hereby sentenced to thirty-eight years at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut.”

“Damian Thorne, you are hereby sentenced to Life Imprisonment without the possibility of parole, to be served at the United States Penitentiary, Pollock.”

The sound of the judge’s wooden gavel striking the sound block echoed like the final closing of an iron tomb.
