Chapter 9 - THE THREE BABIES IN THE HOSPITAL

Alexander Vale had believed Noah's birth was the one uncomplicated blessing in his life.

Now he was learning three newborns had been involved in a suspicious exchange at the clinic.

And the woman he loved might still be alive.

He sat beside Noah's bassinet.

The baby slept beneath a soft blue blanket.

Alexander watched his chest rise and fall.

For eleven months, he'd never questioned whether Noah belonged to him.

Now he realized the question itself was wrong.

Noah belonged with people who loved and protected him.

Biology mattered for identity.

But it didn't erase the life they'd shared.

Alexander looked toward Leah.

She sat beside Maya, helping her color.

Two children who'd spent four days protecting each other.

He understood something he hadn't understood before.

Family wasn't simply about blood.

It was about showing up.

The investigators continued reviewing the clinic records.

Independent specialists compared birth documentation.

Medical histories.

And available genetic evidence, obtained through proper consent and legal procedures.

The findings were complicated.

The clinic had falsified several records.

But the evidence eventually established that Sofia Vale had delivered twins.

Two boys.

One of them was Alexander's biological son.

The other had been removed from the clinic under a fraudulent transfer order.

Noah's genetic results confirmed that he was not biologically related to Alexander.

For a moment, the news hurt.

Then Noah reached for him.

Alexander smiled through tears.

"You're still my boy."

Daniel stood nearby.

"Sir..."

Alexander shook his head.

"No."

His voice was firm.

"Victor doesn't get to decide who I love."

Meanwhile, investigators traced the third infant's records.

The child had been born to a young woman who disappeared shortly after delivery.

Her name was Elena Bennett.

Leah's mother.

Alexander stared at the report.

"Elena had a baby?"

Leah looked up.

"What?"

The investigator nodded.

"The records suggest Elena gave birth to a boy approximately eleven months ago."

Leah's face drained of color.

"Mom never told us."

Alexander looked at her gently.

"Leah..."

She began crying.

"Why didn't she tell us?"

He didn't know.

He wouldn't pretend to.

The investigator continued.

"There's evidence Victor took control of the infant's placement."

Alexander looked toward Noah.

A terrible possibility formed.

"Are you saying..."

The investigator nodded slowly.

"Genetic testing supports that Noah is Elena Bennett's biological son."

Silence.

Leah stared at the baby.

Her eyes widened.

"Noah?"

Alexander nodded.

"Yes."

She looked toward Maya.

Then back at Noah.

"My brother?"

Tears filled her eyes.

Alexander smiled gently.

"Apparently."

Leah approached the bassinet.

Noah opened his eyes.

She touched his tiny hand.

For the first time, she understood why she'd felt such a strange urgency to help him on the plane.

The baby she'd saved was her little brother.

Maya leaned closer.

"Baby?"

Leah nodded through tears.

"Our brother."

Alexander covered his face.

The child he'd raised was connected to the two girls he'd met only hours earlier.

And Elena, the woman Victor had hidden for years, was the mother of all three.

Then Daniel's phone rang.

He answered.

Listened.

His expression changed.

"Alexander..."

"What?"

"The investigators located another infant."

Alexander stood.

"Where?"

"At a private residence outside Rome."

His heart pounded.

"Is he safe?"

"Alive. Receiving medical evaluation."

Alexander closed his eyes.

Then Daniel added:

"And there's someone with him."

Alexander looked up.

"Who?"

May you like

Daniel swallowed.

"Sofia Vale."
