Chapter 9 - THE FATHER JULIAN NEVER KNEW

Julian had spent thirty-eight years calling Victor his uncle.
Victor had spent thirty-eight years watching from the side.
Manipulating.
Testing.
Waiting.
“Why hide it?” Julian asked.
Dad looked exhausted.
“Your grandfather.”
“What about him?”
“He hated Victor.”
“Why?”
“Because Victor stole from the company when he was young.”
“So he gave me to his brother?”
“Officially.”
Julian looked sick.
His legal father, Thomas Vale, had raised him.
Victor had controlled him from the shadows.
Sebastian, meanwhile, was Victor’s acknowledged nephew publicly but apparently his half brother privately?
The family tree was becoming criminal geometry.
Dad clarified.
“Sebastian is Victor’s son too.”
Julian stared.
“So Sebastian is my half brother.”
“Yes.”
That changed the trust.
Grandfather’s competing heirs were not cousins.
They were brothers.
Both manipulated by the same father.
Julian laughed bitterly.
“He set us against each other.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because divided heirs are easier to control.”
I felt something familiar.
Same tactic.
Different wealth level.
Then Dad looked at me.
“Camille is still missing.”
“We know.”
“She knows something Victor fears more than the audit.”
“What?”
“The original paternity files.”
Julian’s face hardened.
“Why does that matter?”
“Because Victor cannot inherit through you.”
“What?”
Dad explained.
The trust disqualified any direct descendant of Victor Vale from controlling the company if Victor was ever proven to have committed fraud against the trust.
Julian and Sebastian were both his sons.
Meaning both could be disqualified.
“Then who gets control?” I asked.
Dad looked at me.
“Independent foundation.”
Julian stared.
“Grandfather planned that?”
“He suspected Victor.”
“Then why the marriage clause?”
“To create public accountability.”
Dad smiled faintly.
“Your grandfather was complicated.”
Understatement.
Then Marcus entered.
“We found Camille.”
“Alive?”
“Yes.”
“Where?”
“Hospital outside Albany.”
She had escaped during a transfer.
We reached her by evening.
She looked bruised but furious.
“Victor is moving money.”
“Where?” Julian asked.
“Offshore.”
“Can we stop it?”
“If we trigger the disqualification.”
Dad nodded.
“We need the paternity files.”
Camille reached under her blanket.
Pulled out a flash drive.
“I have them.”
Julian stared.
“You kept them on you?”
“Victor searched my purse.”
“So?”
“I taped it inside my shoe.”
I liked her immediately.
The files proved everything.
Victor’s paternity.
Sebastian.
Julian.
Fraud.
Trust manipulation.
Marcus contacted the court.
Emergency hearing scheduled for morning.
It felt like the end.
Then my mother called.
“Lena.”
Her voice was wrong.
“What happened?”
“Rafael is gone.”
I froze.
“What?”
“He left the hospital.”
“Why?”
“He left a note.”
“What does it say?”
Mom started crying.

I started this. I have to finish it.
Dad had gone after Victor alone.
