Chapter 17 - The St. Moritz Vault

Two months later, Ethan, Lupita, and Marcus Vance traveled to Switzerland alongside Federal Prosecutor Sarah Jenkins.

Under an international judicial assistance treaty, Swiss Federal Police executed a joint raid on a high-security private bank vault in St. Moritz registered under the name of Sterling Vance.

Inside Vault 408—a climate-controlled steel chamber built deep beneath the Swiss Alps—investigators uncovered the master archives of the Vance Syndicate.

Spread across heavy oak tables were thirty years of physical ledgers, dark-web server backups, and certified real estate deeds.

The findings were staggering.

The syndicate had stolen over $180 million from twenty-two prominent families across Europe and North America over three decades.

Among the records was a sealed leather journal kept personally by Eleanor’s late uncle, detailing every bribe paid to local officials, every forged prenuptial agreement, and the exact chemical formulas used to poison victims.

"This is the holy grail of corporate estate prosecution," Prosecutor Jenkins declared, holding up the master ledger.

"With these documents, every single transaction executed by Apex Heritage Holdings over the last thirty years is legally voided ab initio."

"What does that mean for the Grand Regent, Marcus?" Ethan asked, looking out the vault window toward the snow-capped Alpine peaks.

Marcus Vance smiled—a broad, triumphant smile that illuminated his face.

"It means, Ethan, that the Grand Regent Hotel, its underlying land deeds, its regional subsidiaries, and a sixty-million-dollar liquid restitution fund belong 100% and unencumbered to you and Lily."

"The debt is cleared."

"The titles are pristine."

"And the Vance family name has been permanently erased from the corporate registry."

Lupita stepped beside Ethan, holding a warm cup of coffee, looking at the breathtaking winter landscape.

"Eleanor’s dream is finally protected, Ethan," Lupita said gently.

Ethan nodded, taking a slow, deep breath of the crisp mountain air.

"Not just protected, Lupita," Ethan smiled, turning to look at her with deep affection and gratitude.

"Built upon."

"When we get back to Chicago, we are establishing the Eleanor Vance Foundation for Maternal & Child Safety."

"We are going to use these recovered funds to build emergency housing, legal defense networks, and safe shelters for mothers and children escaping domestic exploitation across the entire country."

"A legacy of real love," Lupita murmured softly.

"A legacy that no lie can ever break."
