Chapter 2 - The Stolen Intellectual Property

The private security detail at the perimeter of the ballroom froze, unsure of whether to intervene against the company’s vice president.
Arthur Vance, the senior chairman of the board and my late father’s oldest colleague, pushed through the crowd with his silver cane.
“What is going on here, Blake?” Arthur demanded, his sharp gaze cutting between Blake’s guilty expression and my serene composure.
“The foreign investors from Zurich are watching this spectacle from the VIP gallery!”
Blake frantically adjusted his bowtie, attempting to reassemble the fragments of his charismatic corporate persona.
“Arthur, this is a baseless domestic dispute!” Blake pleaded loudly, gesturing desperately toward me.
“Audrey has suffered an emotional breakdown following her father’s passing, and Dr. Sterling has been manipulating her grief!”
Seraphina quickly nodded in agreement, forcing tears to well in her eyes to play the role of the innocent, attacked victim.
“Damien has become completely paranoid from his hospital workload, Mr. Vance!” Seraphina cried, dabbing her dry eyes with a silk napkin.
“He is fabricating wild, defamatory accusations to ruin our family’s philanthropic standing!”
I let out a sharp, mocking laugh that cut through their rehearsed lies like a scalpel.
I reached into my designer clutch and pulled out an encrypted titanium flash drive glowing with a steady blue LED indicator.
“Let’s talk about philanthropy, Seraphina,” I announced, turning toward the gigantic projection screens suspended above the stage.
“And let’s talk about why you and Blake registered a private holding company in Grand Cayman three weeks ago.”
Damien pulled a wireless control module from his tuxedo pocket and paired it instantly with the ballroom’s master audiovisual system.
The massive 8K displays flickered for a fraction of a second before illuminating the entire hall in blinding, undeniable evidence.
Projected across forty feet of high-definition displays were the classified aerospace propulsion schematics stolen from AeroSpace Dynamics.
Beside the military blueprints were the proprietary bio-cellular patent formulas developed by Damien’s late father at the Sterling Surgical Institute.
And stamped across the ownership header of the offshore corporate shell were two names: Blake Vance and Seraphina Sterling.
The entire ballroom descended into a state of stunned, breathless shock as the corporate executives recognized their own classified assets.
“You didn't just share a bed behind our backs,” Damien said, his voice echoing with devastating finality.
“You stole three hundred million dollars in military defense prototypes and surgical patents to sell to an offshore competitor in Singapore.”

Blake’s knees gave way beneath him, his hands clutching the edge of the bar table as his corporate empire evaporated before his eyes.
The affair was no longer a scandalous rumor; it was the foundation of an international corporate treason case.
