Chapter 12 - The Truth About the Bellandi Family

Adrien Bellandi had spent sixteen years believing his father died in a highway accident.

Now his wife was claiming the crash had been arranged by his own mother.

He sat inside his study while an investigator explained the emerging evidence.

His father's name had been Lorenzo Bellandi.

A ruthless businessman.

A powerful criminal figure.

And a man who'd left behind more enemies than friends.

Adrien had never questioned the accident.

Lorenzo's vehicle went off a mountain road during a storm.

His driver died beside him.

The police closed the case.

Isabella became the administrator of several family trusts.

Victor took control of the financial operations.

And Adrien inherited the criminal organization.

Now everything looked different.

Celeste's recovered files included an old insurance report showing irregularities in the vehicle inspection.

There were suspicious payments to a mechanic.

A forged maintenance authorization.

And financial transfers made shortly before Lorenzo's death.

But the most important evidence came from Daniel Hart.

Evelyn's father had preserved accounting records documenting payments from Isabella's trust accounts to the company involved in the vehicle's servicing.

Adrien stared at the documents.

"My mother?"

The investigator answered carefully.

"The records raise serious questions. We're reopening the investigation rather than drawing conclusions from financial records alone."

Adrien nodded.

For the first time, he wasn't demanding immediate revenge.

He wanted the truth established properly.

Then the investigator played a recording Celeste had recovered.

Isabella's voice filled the room.

Lorenzo was going to remove me as trustee.

Victor answered:

Then you should have let him.

Isabella replied:

I spent twenty years building this family. I wasn't going to let him take everything away.

The recording ended.

Adrien covered his face.

He remembered his father's funeral.

Isabella standing beside the coffin.

Her tears.

Her trembling hands.

The way she'd told Adrien that only family could be trusted.

Now he wondered whether those tears had been real.

Evelyn sat beside him.

For several minutes, she said nothing.

Then Adrien looked at her.

"Your father spent eighteen years hiding because of my family."

She nodded.

"My mother spent those years working herself sick."

His eyes filled.

"And my children lost their mother."

Evelyn looked down.

Neither of them could repair the years that had been stolen.

But they could decide what happened next.

That evening, authorities detained Dr. Price in connection with the unlawful confinement investigation.

Marco DeLuca was also taken into custody after records linked him to Celeste's disappearance.

Victor's financial accounts were frozen under judicial orders.

And Isabella was questioned about her role in the conspiracy.

Then came the news Adrien had waited more than two years to hear.

Celeste was medically stable enough for a supervised family reunion.

Adrien stood so quickly his chair fell backward.

"Where?"

"At the hospital."

He turned toward Evelyn.

His eyes were wet.

"Will you come?"

She smiled gently.

"Only if Celeste wants me there."

Adrien nodded.

For the first time, he understood that love didn't give him the right to decide everything for everyone.

But before the reunion, Celeste sent one final message.

It was addressed to Adrien.

Please don't bring the children into a room full of strangers.

And please don't tell them I've come back until they can see me.

Then she added:

I have something to confess about the night I disappeared.

Adrien's heart stopped.

Because Celeste said she hadn't merely been taken from the house.

She'd agreed to enter the cellar.

To save her children.
