Chapter 1 - THE WORD THAT SILENCED THE MAFIA BOSS

“Sellar.”
The silver tray trembled in Evelyn Hart's hands.
For a moment, she thought she had imagined it.
Then the smallest Belandi triplet looked directly at her and whispered the word again.
“Sellar.”
The entire Grand Aurelia fell silent.
Adrien Belandi slowly rose from his chair.
“What did she say?”
His voice was barely audible, but every person in the private dining room heard him.
Evelyn swallowed.
“I think she said 'Sellar,' sir.”
The little girl, Lily, tightened her fingers around the edge of her white dress.
Her brothers, Noah and Oliver, stared at her in astonishment.
For two years, none of them had spoken.
Not after their mother disappeared.
Not after countless appointments with specialists.
Not even when their father begged them to say his name.
Yet Lily had just spoken to a waitress who had known her for less than an hour.
Adrien approached the table.
“Lily?”
The child flinched.
Evelyn noticed immediately.
“Sir, perhaps you could give her a little space.”
Every bodyguard in the room turned toward her.
Nobody told Adrien Belandi what to do.
But he stopped.
Evelyn crouched beside the table, keeping a comfortable distance from Lily.
“Hi, sweetheart. I'm Evelyn.”
Lily watched her carefully.
“You don't have to say anything else,” Evelyn continued. “I'm happy just sitting here with you.”
The little girl looked down at Evelyn's apron.
Then she pointed toward the service hallway.
“Sellar.”
Adrien's expression changed.
“The cellar?”
Evelyn glanced toward the restaurant's basement entrance.
A strange thought crossed her mind.
The cellar had been locked for months.
Only senior employees were allowed downstairs.
Then Lily reached toward Evelyn's wrist.
Her tiny fingers brushed a faded scar.
The child suddenly began shaking.
“No,” she whispered.
Adrien gripped the back of his chair.
A second word.
Evelyn leaned closer.
“What is it, sweetheart?”
Lily pointed toward a painting above the fireplace.
It showed the Grand Aurelia as it had looked decades earlier.
Beneath the building was an old stone cellar.
And standing beside the fireplace in the painting was a woman wearing a silver necklace.
Lily whispered one more word.
“Mommy.”
Adrien's face went white.
May you like
Because the woman in the painting looked exactly like Celeste Belandi.
And the painting had been hanging there for forty years.
