Chapter 7 - Unmasking the Predators

Vincent took his place behind the podium, pulling the microphone toward him. The room fell into a dead, expectant silence.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen,” Vincent’s voice boomed softly through the surround-sound speakers, calm and authoritative. “Tonight, we gather to celebrate philanthropy, medicine, and the preservation of human life.”
He paused, his pale gray eyes sweeping over the crowd until they locked directly onto Dr. Vance and the Marsh family.
“However,” Vincent continued, his tone dropping into a icy register that made the hair on the back of everyone's neck stand up, “before we open the charity auction, the Moretti Foundation would like to present a special presentation regarding the management of Marlo County Public Hospital.”
Vincent motioned to the media booth.
Instantly, the massive forty-foot high-definition digital display screen behind the stage flickered and changed.
The room erupted into collective gasps of horror.
Projected across the screen in high-contrast 4K resolution were internal hospital ledgers, chemical lab analysis reports, and encrypted email threads between Dr. Julian Vance, Helena Marsh, and black-market pharmaceutical brokers.
The documents proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Dr. Vance had systematically stolen $15 million worth of critical cancer and cardiac medications, replacing them with diluted saline.
And then, a video file began to play.
It was audio-visual security footage retrieved from Dr. Vance’s private office, recorded three weeks before Evelyn Marsh’s death.
On the screen, Dr. Vance and Helena Marsh were sitting across from each other, sipping scotch.
"Are you sure the saline won't leave toxicological markers?" Helena’s recorded voice echoed loudly through the ballroom speakers.
"It’s salt water, Helena," Dr. Vance answered on the tape with a cruel chuckle. "It leaves nothing except a dead body and a diagnosis of natural cardiac failure. Once Evelyn is out of the picture, we process the twenty-four million dollar land transfer, and Cynthia gets her ring."
The ballroom exploded into absolute, chaotic fury.
Dignitaries gasped in horror. Female socialites covered their mouths in disgust. Several prominent hospital donors stood up, pointing fingers and screaming at Table 4.

Cynthia collapsed into her chair, weeping hysterically, while Helena tried frantically to cover her face with her mink stole.
Dr. Vance turned and bolted toward the emergency fire exit at the side of the ballroom.
