Chapter 11 - The Waterfront Reckoning

The midnight fog rolled heavily across the dark waters of Boston Harbor as my tactical convoy surrounded Pier 54.
Pier 54 was the primary contraband distribution hub for the Castiglione crime family—the syndicate that had supplied the explosives for Damian’s murder seven years ago.
Viktor Castiglione stood on the loading dock in a heavy fur-collared leather coat, surrounded by twenty armed mercenaries loading crates of illegal munitions onto a cargo vessel.
He was checking his luxury watch impatiently, waiting for the confirmation that his hit squad had successfully eliminated the Vance heir at the research institute.
Suddenly, four heavy industrial spotlights mounted on our armored tactical trucks flared to life, blinding the entire pier in brilliant, inescapable daylight.
The heavy rumble of three federal maritime patrol gunboats resonated across the harbor, cutting off the cargo vessel’s escape route into the open Atlantic.
“Viktor Castiglione!” my voice boomed through the tactical megaphones, echoing off the corrugated steel warehouses.
“Drop your weapons and step away from the containers; your hit squad at the hospital was eliminated three hours ago.”
Viktor drew his gold-plated semi-automatic pistol, screaming curses in Italian as he fired wildly toward the blinding lights.
My tactical operators returned fire with devastating, synchronized precision, disabling the mercenaries’ vehicles and neutralizing the perimeter guards within ninety seconds.
I stepped onto the pier with a custom assault rifle, advancing through the smoke and muzzle flashes with the unstoppable momentum of a war machine.

Viktor attempted to scramble up the gangway of the cargo ship, but a single, perfectly placed round from my rifle shattered his right knee, sending him tumbling down the metal stairs onto the wet wooden dock.
He lay on his back, clutching his bleeding leg, gasping for air as my heavy boot came down squarely across his chest, pinning him to the timber planks.
“Matteo… wait… we can make a deal!” Viktor wheezed, blood spitting from his split lip.
“I have sixty million dollars in gold bullion in the ship’s hold! Take the gold and let me board the freighter!”
I looked down at the man who had ordered the bomb on the Tobin Bridge, feeling no anger, no hatred, only the sacred, chilling execution of justice.
“My brother’s life wasn't for sale seven years ago, Viktor,” I spoke softly into the cold ocean wind.
“And neither is my nephew’s future.”
I kicked his gold-plated weapon into the freezing harbor water, stepping back as a squad of twenty federal FBI tactical agents swarmed the dock with heavy restraints.
Special Agent Reed placed his boot on Viktor’s neck, snapping heavy steel chains around the mob boss’s wrists.

“Viktor Castiglione, under Federal RICO Warrant 9901, you are under arrest for international terrorism, murder of a maritime official, and interstate racketeering.”
As the federal agents dragged the screaming syndicate lord toward the transport vans, the dark shadow that had hung over Boston for seven years was permanently obliterated beneath the flashing red and blue lights of justice.
