Chapter 11 - The Family Tree Built on Lies

DNA ended the question.

Lorenzo Moretti was Elena’s biological father.

Adrian and Elena shared a father.

Isabella and Elena shared a mother.

Which meant Elena was connected to both sides of Adrian's marriage in a way nobody had imagined.

Adrian stared at the results.

“So my wife’s sister is also my sister.”

Dante rubbed his forehead.

“This family needs simpler holidays.”

For the first time in days, Elena laughed.

It came out through tears.

Then the emotional weight returned.

Lorenzo had an affair with Teresa years after Isabella’s adoption.

Teresa never told him she became pregnant.

She feared the Moretti name.

Perhaps rightly.

Adrian had grown up believing his father had only two children—him and Bianca, who died young.

Now Elena existed.

A housekeeper in his own mansion.

His sister.

He looked ashamed.

“You cleaned my floors.”

Elena frowned.

“That was my job.”

“It shouldn't have been.”

“Do not make this worse by pretending honest work is shameful.”

Adrian blinked.

Then smiled faintly.

“You really are my sister.”

Sophia loved the news.

“So Mr. Adrian is Uncle Adrian?”

“Yes.”

“And Anthony is my cousin?”

“Yes.”

“And Titan is…”

“A dog.”

Sophia considered this.

“Family dog.”

Titan wagged his tail.

Done.

But Teresa's sewing box contained something else.

Lorenzo knew about the corruption before his death.

He suspected witness names were being sold.

He had begun moving legitimate Moretti assets into protected trusts.

Not for Adrian.

For any grandchildren who might one day exist.

Anthony.

And potentially children through Elena.

Sophia.

Matteo and Vincent had both misunderstood the succession.

If Adrian’s line failed, the legal assets did not go directly to Vincent.

They passed through Lorenzo’s bloodline.

Elena was in that line.

So was Sophia.

That explained why Matteo eventually became interested in the child beyond the encryption key.

If Anthony disappeared and Adrian died, Sophia could inherit a controlling interest in the legal Moretti holdings.

Elena felt sick.

“I don't want any of it.”

Adrian looked at her.

“Neither do I.”

That surprised everyone.

For years, Moretti power defined him.

But Anthony was upstairs arguing with Sophia about whether Titan could sleep on a bed.

Lucia was alive.

Elena existed.

The empire suddenly looked small beside family.

Adrian continued.

“Isabella wanted out.”

Lucia nodded.

“She did.”

“She built the clinic.”

“Yes.”

“Protected women.”

“Yes.”

“And I never knew.”

“You weren't supposed to.”

He looked toward the window.

“She believed I would choose the family business over her.”

Nobody answered.

Because perhaps once, he would have.

That truth mattered.

Vincent was arrested two days later using Isabella’s archive and Matteo’s testimony.

He denied murder.

Denied witness leaks.

Denied everything.

Then Reynolds agreed to testify.

Miguel too.

Mrs. Bellini brought records.

One by one, the system collapsed.

But one file remained inaccessible.

ISABELLA FINAL.

The password hint:

THE FIRST THING SOPHIA HEARD.

Everyone assumed it meant a song.

A word.

Elena knew better.

When Sophia was born, Elena had only one possession connected to Miguel.

An old voicemail.

She played it during labor.

Miguel’s voice saying:

I’m sorry I can't come home yet. Tell our little girl her father loves her.

Sophia’s first sound after birth had been that recording.

The password:

COME HOME.

The file opened.

Isabella appeared one final time.

“If this video is open, then Elena knows who she is.”

Elena cried immediately.

Isabella smiled.

“Hello, little sister.”

Then she revealed her last secret.

“Adrian, if Anthony is alive, do not make him your heir.”

Adrian frowned.

Isabella continued.

“End it.”

The empire.

The succession.

The entire structure that had killed, corrupted, and separated generations.

“Give our son a father.”

May you like

She looked into the camera.

“Not a throne.”
