Chapter 11 - THE MONEY EVELYN MOVED

Evelyn admitted it.
Not immediately.
But the evidence was overwhelming.
She had gained access to Marcus's company login years earlier.
He gave it to her voluntarily.
Because secrets create trust in strange places.
Two months before graduation, she transferred $600,000 into a shell company, then moved it into an account connected to Leo.
Marcus exploded when he learned.
“You stole from me?”
Evelyn laughed.
For the first time, I saw the relationship without romance.
Just resentment.
“I invested in you for eighteen years.”
“I paid you back.”
“You gave me scraps.”
“Hundreds of thousands!”
“You built a fifty-million-dollar company partly with my father's money.”
Marcus went silent.
There it was.
Evelyn wasn't trying to steal for Leo.
She believed she was collecting what Marcus owed her.
Leo looked horrified.
“I don't want it.”
Evelyn turned.
“This is for you.”
“No.”
“You deserve—”
“No.”
His voice rose.
“I never asked Dad to miss Ethan's stuff. I never asked you to sleep with him. I never asked for his company.”
Ethan looked at him.
For the first time, something like respect appeared.
Leo continued.
“You two used us as excuses.”
That sentence silenced every adult.
He was right.
Marcus said he neglected Ethan because Leo needed him.
Evelyn said she stole because Leo deserved security.
Neither boy had asked for any of it.
The $600,000 was frozen and returned pending investigation.
Evelyn faced potential charges.
Marcus's own financial conduct was also under review.
No one was clean.
Then Leo asked his mother one question.
“Who is my real father?”
Evelyn stiffened.
She had avoided that truth for eighteen years.
Leo knew only that Marcus wasn't biological.
Now he wanted a name.
She said:
“Daniel Reeves.”
Marcus went pale.
I recognized the name too.
Daniel Reeves had been Marcus's business partner when the engineering firm started.
He died fourteen years ago.
Supposedly in a climbing accident.
Leo stared at her.
“My father worked with Marcus?”
“Yes.”
“Did he know about me?”
Evelyn began crying.
“Yes.”
“Did he want me?”
She couldn't answer.
Marcus did.
“He did.”
Everyone turned.
Marcus looked sick.
“Daniel wanted custody.”
Evelyn snapped, “Don't.”
Leo stood.
“What do you mean?”
Marcus rubbed his face.
“Daniel found out when you were three.”
“He knew?”
“Yes.”
“He wanted to meet me?”
“Yes.”
Leo's voice broke.
“Then why didn't he?”
Nobody spoke.
Finally Marcus whispered:
“Because your mother threatened to tell his wife.”
Evelyn shouted, “He had a family!”
Leo stared at her.
“And I wasn't part of it?”
The room went silent.
Then Marcus revealed the worst part.
Daniel had planned to tell the truth anyway.
May you like
One week later, he died.
And Marcus had been the last person to see him alive.
