Chapter 11 - THE FIRST MORGAN SON

His name was Adrian Cole.

Forty-one.

Born before Luke.

Different mother.

Luke's father, Nathan Morgan, had been twenty-three.

The pregnancy was hidden.

Adrian was raised under his mother's surname.

Nathan supported him privately.

Isabella knew.

Of course.

Luke didn't.

“Why hide him?”

Trust succession.

Again.

Nathan's father refused to recognize a child born outside marriage.

But the original trust language did not care about marriage.

Only biology.

If Adrian proved paternity, he became the first Morgan descendant of his generation.

That could radically change inheritance.

My unborn child might no longer be the first biological descendant relevant to stewardship.

Which meant Isabella's panic about my pregnancy had another reason.

Adrian's existence threatened to reopen everything.

If my child triggered biological review, the family might uncover him.

Grant had spent decades suppressing Adrian's claim.

We found Adrian in Milwaukee.

He knew who his father was.

Wanted nothing.

That surprised everyone.

“I have a life.”

He was a pediatric surgeon.

Married.

Two daughters.

He had accepted Nathan's private support as a child but refused Morgan involvement as an adult.

“Then why does Grant fear you?”

Adrian laughed.

“Because I have my father's letters.”

Nathan had admitted everything.

Including trust suppression.

Including payments to Grant to “handle” legal exposure.

Not criminal necessarily.

But enough to show the family concealed a rightful beneficiary.

Adrian gave copies to investigators.

Then he looked at Luke.

“You didn't know?”

“No.”

“Lucky you.”

Not kindly.

Luke accepted it.

Then Adrian turned to me.

“You're pregnant?”

“Yes.”

“Congratulations.”

No trust.

No money.

Just congratulations.

I nearly cried because it was the first normal reaction from anyone in Luke's family.

Then Adrian said:

“You should get independent medical screening.”

I froze.

“Why?”

Morgan family cardiac history.

Nathan had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Luke had been tested as a teenager.

Negative.

But Adrian was positive.

One of his daughters too.

My baby needed screening later.

Real medicine.

Not financial manipulation.

Luke looked shaken.

Then Adrian added:

“Grant knows medical information is leverage. Don't let family doctors control it.”

That became important faster than expected.

My obstetrician called.

Someone had requested my full prenatal records.

Not me.

Not Maya.

Request submitted under Luke's authorization.

Forged.

Again.

Destination:

Morgan Family Medical Office.

Run by Grant's wife, Dr. Celeste Morgan.

Grant wasn't acting alone.
