Chapter 8 - THE NIGHT THE EMPIRE FELL

The mayor entered with armed officers.
“Adrian Moretti,” he said, “you're under investigation.”
Adrian almost laughed.
“For what?”
“Conspiracy. Money laundering. Organized criminal activity.”
Vincent appeared behind him.
Adrian realized the trap.
The evidence had been planted.
The ledger would be used against them.
Unless they could prove who created it.
Luca whispered:
“The recording.”
Adrian nodded.
He had recorded Vincent admitting everything.
But the mayor reached for Adrian's phone.
“Hand it over.”
Adrian smiled.
“I don't have it.”
The mayor frowned.
Adrian pointed toward the baby.
“It's already been transmitted.”
Earlier, Adrian had activated an emergency protocol.
The recording had been sent automatically to three federal investigators, two newspapers, and a judge.
The mayor's face changed.
Vincent stared at Adrian in disbelief.
“You wouldn't.”
“I would.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“You spent years believing power meant controlling everyone.”
He looked around the room.
“It doesn't.”
Sirens sounded again.
This time they were different.
Federal agents entered the estate.
The mayor tried to leave.
He was arrested.
Vincent reached for a weapon.
Luca stopped him.
For a second, Adrian thought his brother would kill him.
Instead, Luca lowered Vincent's hand.
“No.”
Vincent stared.
“Why?”
“Because I want you alive to hear every accusation.”
Vincent was taken away.
The Moretti empire collapsed within forty-eight hours.
Accounts were frozen.
Properties were seized.
Investigations began.
Adrian's name appeared on every news channel.
But the strangest headline wasn't about him.
It was:
MISSING MORETTI HEIR FOUND ALIVE.
Luca was no longer a ghost.
And his daughter was finally free.
But Adrian knew their story wasn't finished.
