Chapter 5 - THE BETRAYAL AT THE DINNER TABLE

They escaped through an underground tunnel beneath the marina.

For the first time in eleven years, Adrian and Luca stood together.

But neither knew whether they could trust the other.

Luca explained that Vincent had spent years infiltrating the Moretti organization.

“He didn't want the money,” Luca said.

Adrian frowned.

“Then what?”

“Control.”

Vincent wanted the Moretti name.

He wanted Adrian's empire.

And more importantly, he wanted the evidence destroyed.

“There is someone inside your penthouse,” Luca said.

Adrian already knew.

“Who?”

Luca shook his head.

“I don't know.”

They returned through a hidden entrance.

Mara was waiting.

Her face was bruised, but she was alive.

She held the baby tightly.

Adrian rushed toward her.

“Where is Vincent?”

“He left when he realized I didn't know where you were.”

Luca stepped forward.

Mara stared at him.

Her eyes filled with tears.

“You're alive.”

Luca nodded.

“I promised Elena.”

Mara looked at the baby.

“She looks like her.”

Luca gently touched his daughter's hand.

Then the lights turned on.

Adrian's security chief stood at the doorway.

Marcus.

Adrian had trusted him for fifteen years.

Marcus raised a gun.

“No one move.”

Adrian stared at him.

“You?”

Marcus looked ashamed.

“I never wanted this.”

Luca laughed bitterly.

“Then why are you holding a gun?”

“Because Vincent has my son.”

The room went silent.

Marcus lowered his weapon.

“He said if I didn't help him, he'd kill him.”

Adrian slowly approached.

“Where is Vincent?”

Marcus swallowed.

“He's at your house.”

Adrian's expression changed.

“What?”

“He took your mother’s old estate.”

Luca looked at Adrian.

“That’s where he kept the original ledger.”

Adrian understood.

Vincent wasn't trying to escape.

He wanted Adrian to come.

A family reunion.

A final trap.

Adrian looked at the baby.

May you like

Then at Luca.

“We finish this tonight.”
