Chapter 11 - THE NIGHT THE TRUTH CAME OUT

For ten terrifying seconds, I heard nothing but static.

Then Roman's voice returned.

“Hannah, stay where you are.”

I knew that tone. He was trying to keep me safe while preparing to risk everything himself.

I refused to become another person he had to protect by keeping in the dark.

Using the backup location Victor had arranged, I moved with the security team toward the warehouse's side entrance. Officers were already approaching the property after receiving the recorded threat and evidence of Adrian's alleged coercion.

Inside, the lights flickered back on.

Adrian stood beside a fallen table, furious that Roman had refused to surrender. His men were arguing among themselves, and the original ledger lay on the floor where it had been dropped during the struggle.

Roman had a split lip but remained standing.

“You could have had everything,” Adrian spat.

“I wanted my mother,” Roman replied.

“You had a name, an empire, and people who feared you. What more could you possibly want?”

“A family that didn't lie to me.”

Adrian lunged for the ledger.

Victor blocked him, and officers moved in before he could reach the papers. No one fired a shot. After months of hidden transactions, forged documents, and threats, the evidence was finally in the hands of investigators.

The recording captured Adrian admitting that Roman's father had discovered his financial scheme and that he had arranged the fatal crash to protect it.

As the officers escorted Adrian away, he turned toward me.

“You think you've saved him?” he sneered.

I didn't answer.

Roman stepped beside me, his shoulder brushing mine.

For the first time since I'd met him, he looked relieved rather than dangerous.

Then Victor appeared with an urgent message.

Isabella had heard about the arrests.

She wanted to see her son.

May you like

But she had one final condition.

She wanted to meet him somewhere no Vale had ever controlled.
