Chapter 5 - The Three Years of Silence

Three entire, incredibly peaceful, and highly transformative years passed without a single, solitary spoken word passing between me and the highly toxic people who unfortunately shared my biological bloodline.
I successfully, completely transformed myself from a terrified, battered victim into a highly educated, incredibly powerful, and highly respected businesswoman operating flawlessly in the high-stakes shadows of the corporate world.
I heavily, strategically invested the massive Harrington fortune into highly emerging, cutting-edge technologies and incredibly profitable green energy sectors, and I actually managed to entirely triple its original, staggering value.
I lived comfortably in a stunning, incredibly secure, and highly modern high-rise penthouse overlooking the beautiful, glittering city skyline, and I actively surrounded myself exclusively with genuinely kind, deeply loyal friends.
I completely, systematically blocked all of the incredibly desperate, highly aggressive emails and furiously demanding voicemails my pathetic family continually attempted to send through various, highly expensive legal channels.
They were incredibly, violently furious that they could not legally, physically, or financially touch a single, solitary penny of the massive, highly protected family fortune that they felt so deeply and arrogantly entitled to.
They publicly, loudly painted themselves to high society as the tragic, deeply heartbroken victims of a highly greedy, entirely manipulative, and incredibly cruel daughter who maliciously stole their rightful, historic legacy.
I simply, completely ignored their pathetic, highly transparent public relations campaign and focused entirely, completely on my own profound, highly satisfying personal growth and massive corporate expansion.
Then, on a completely random, highly mundane Tuesday afternoon, a highly unexpected, deeply shocking message suddenly appeared on the bright screen of my heavily encrypted, highly secure private business phone.
It was a lengthy, highly dramatic text message directly from my mother, explicitly stating that she had recently been diagnosed with a severe, highly aggressive, and potentially entirely fatal medical illness.
She wrote a long, incredibly emotional, and highly poetic paragraph about how much she deeply, profoundly regretted the immense pain and suffering she had supposedly caused me during my difficult childhood.
She desperately, pathetically begged for a final, highly crucial opportunity to simply sit down and share a peaceful, entirely quiet dinner to finally heal our broken, highly fractured family bonds before it was too late.
She explicitly, heavily promised that it would absolutely just be the two of us and my father, with absolutely no pressure whatsoever to discuss the massive inheritance or any stressful money matters.
Part of my highly analytical mind instantly, completely recognized the highly manipulative, deeply familiar toxic language she had always ruthlessly used to flawlessly control my fragile emotions in the past.
But a very small, incredibly deeply damaged, and highly vulnerable part of my inner child desperately, tragically wanted to believe that they had actually, genuinely changed after facing the terrifying prospect of human mortality.
I deeply wanted to sit across from them, look them directly in their cold eyes, and determine if they were truly, genuinely capable of feeling any real, profound human remorse for destroying my childhood.

I carefully, highly strategically decided to formally accept their sudden invitation to dine at the highly exclusive, incredibly expensive Bellmont House restaurant located in the heart of downtown Chicago.
However, I was absolutely, entirely not going to walk blindly into a highly potential, incredibly dangerous psychological ambush without preparing a massive, highly devastating, and completely foolproof contingency plan.
