Chapter 2 - The Only Source of Warmth

The absolutely only person in the entire world who ever showed me an ounce of genuine, unconditional kindness was my incredibly wealthy, highly intelligent grandmother, Eleanor Harrington.

She was a highly respected, deeply feared matriarch who possessed a brilliantly sharp analytical mind and a deeply compassionate, remarkably observant soul.

Whenever her luxurious black town car pulled into the sweeping circular driveway of our sprawling estate, my highly abusive parents would instantly, magically transform into a perfectly loving, entirely fake family.

They would forcefully aggressively command me to wear nice, heavily starched clothes and smile brightly to completely hide the horrific, undeniable reality of my daily, agonizing torture.

But Grandmother Eleanor was incredibly, remarkably observant, and her sharp, piercing blue eyes saw right through their pathetic, transparent theatrical performance from the very moment she stepped through the heavy oak doors.

She immediately noticed my highly anxious, constant flinching movements, my terrifyingly low body weight, and the deep, profound sadness desperately hiding behind my tightly forced, unnatural smiles.

During the very rare, incredibly precious moments we were left entirely alone in the sprawling estate gardens, she would gently and warmly hold my violently trembling, scarred hands in hers.

She would softly, lovingly wipe away my silent, heavy tears with a silk handkerchief and fiercely promise me that my future was going to be incredibly bright, powerful, and absolutely free from their tyranny.

She secretly, quietly taught me about complex financial investments, corporate structuring, and the absolute, vital importance of securing complete, undeniable personal financial independence as a woman in a cruel world.

She knew exactly how intensely cruel, remarkably greedy, and fundamentally monstrous her own son had become over the years, and she deeply, profoundly regretted the terrible monster he had successfully hidden from society.

Over the course of several quiet years, she methodically, quietly transferred massive, untraceable funds into a highly hidden, incredibly secure trust account established exclusively and irrevocably under my legal name.

She also secretly hired the most ruthless, highly respected estate attorneys in the country to legally, permanently update her final testament to ensure that the glorious Harrington Estate would ultimately belong solely to me.

She explicitly, tearfully told me that I was the absolutely only person in the entire, deeply corrupted family bloodline who possessed a pure, kind heart that was genuinely worthy of inheriting her massive, historic legacy.

Her unwavering, profound love and secret, high-level financial education became the impenetrable, heavy iron armor that actively protected my fragile mind from completely, totally shattering under my family's relentless, daily abuse.

When she finally, tragically passed away from a sudden, aggressive respiratory illness, my entire, highly insulated world completely, violently collapsed into a state of absolute, terrifying darkness.

I stood silently at the very back of the sprawling, rain-soaked cemetery during her grand, highly publicized funeral while my toxic family fake cried loudly and dramatically for the flashing cameras of the local press.

I knew with absolute, terrifying certainty that without her immense, overarching protection and physical presence, my life trapped inside that massive house was going to become infinitely more dangerous and potentially fatal.

I desperately, urgently needed to formulate a flawless, highly strategic plan to completely escape their clutches before they inevitably destroyed whatever tiny, fragile pieces were left of my fighting spirit.

I had absolutely no idea that the upcoming, highly anticipated legal proceedings regarding her vast estate would unexpectedly give me the exact, incredibly powerful weapon I needed to not only survive, but to utterly conquer them.
