Chapter 14 - The Last Secret of Giovanni Moretti

Clara had imagined meeting her father thousands of times as a child.

She had never imagined wanting to run from him.

Giovanni stopped several feet away.

“I won’t ask you to call me anything.”

“Good.”

He accepted the blow without argument.

Rico stepped forward.

“You let me bury you.”

“Yes.”

“You let me bury my wife.”

“No. That was Salvatore.”

Salvatore laughed bitterly.

“And now we begin rewriting history?”

Giovanni’s expression hardened.

The truth finally came out.

Years earlier, Giovanni had built a criminal empire and used legitimate businesses to hide its money. Salvatore expanded the system after Giovanni disappeared.

Rebecca discovered enough evidence to destroy both men.

Instead of exposing everything immediately, she forced Giovanni to begin dismantling parts of the organization and establish legitimate trusts for employees and victims harmed by his operations.

But Salvatore refused to surrender power.

Elena later discovered he was rebuilding the network.

Her shooting had been Salvatore’s attempt to silence her.

Giovanni secretly kept Elena alive because exposing himself was the only way to protect her without alerting Salvatore.

“You could have told Rico,” Clara said.

“I was afraid he would react exactly as I taught him to react—with violence.”

Rico looked away.

The words struck.

Giovanni turned to him.

“I made you believe fear was leadership.”

Then he looked at Leo.

“And your son has spent six months teaching all of us the opposite.”

Leo was standing between Clara and Elena, holding the empty milk cup they had brought from Il Destino.

Clara realized Giovanni was right.

Nobody had reached Leo through commands.

Clara reached him through gentleness.

Rico’s face slowly changed.

“What’s on the card?”

Giovanni answered.

“Everything. Names, transactions, shell companies, recordings. Enough to end the criminal side of this family permanently.”

Salvatore took one step backward.

Marco blocked him.

Rico stared at his uncle.

Everyone expected the feared mafia boss to attack.

He didn’t.

Rico simply said, “It ends.”

Salvatore laughed.

“You think you can walk away?”

“Yes.”

“You’ll lose half your empire.”

“Then I lose it.”

“Your reputation.”

“I don’t care.”

“Your power.”

Rico looked toward Leo.

“I nearly lost the only thing that mattered.”

Sirens sounded faintly in the distance—not summoned by Rico, but by bank security responding to the fire.

Salvatore looked toward an escape route.

Then Giovanni revealed the final secret.

“There’s nowhere left to run, brother.”

He held up his phone.

“The files were transmitted an hour ago.”

Salvatore stared at him.

“To whom?”

May you like

Giovanni answered:

“Everyone you spent thirty years trying to hide them from.”
