Chapter 8 - THE MAFIA BOSS'S FAMILY SECRET

“Lorenzo Moretti was my father.”
Dante's voice was barely audible.
Aurora stared at him.
“What?”
“My father died eleven years ago.”
She looked down at her mother's letter.
Then back at Dante.
“Are you saying...?”
“I don't know yet.”
Dante was careful not to jump to conclusions.
The letter alleged that Lorenzo Moretti had maintained a secret relationship with Elena Reyes before Aurora was born.
It also claimed that Lorenzo had established Northstar Capital partly to provide financial security for Elena and her child.
But Elena had written something even more alarming.
Richard Whitlock discovered the trust and threatened to expose everything unless Lorenzo transferred its management to him.
Aurora lowered herself into a chair.
“My mother never told me.”
Dante sat opposite her.
“My father never told me, either.”
The silence between them changed.
Hours earlier, they had been strangers.
Now a letter suggested they might share a father.
Dante remembered the unexpected warmth he'd felt toward Aurora.
He had mistaken it for attraction.
Now he understood that the truth demanded caution, not assumptions.
“We need independent DNA testing,” he said.
Aurora nodded slowly.
“I agree.”
They arranged for legally documented tests through an accredited laboratory.
Meanwhile, Evelyn began reviewing the digital storage device.
She found encrypted corporate records, bank transfers, and video files.
One video was labeled:
ELENA — FINAL STATEMENT.
Aurora covered her trembling mouth.
Dante pressed play.
Her mother appeared on the screen, visibly frightened.
“If Aurora ever sees this, please tell her I'm sorry.”
Elena wiped tears from her cheeks.
“Richard thinks Lorenzo is her father because that's what I allowed him to believe.”
Dante leaned forward.
Elena looked directly into the camera.
“But Aurora's real father is still alive.”
May you like
Then she spoke a name.
“Victor Moretti.”
