Chapter 11 - THE WOMAN THEY THOUGHT WAS POWERLESS

Bianca Russo expected Elena Moretti to be hiding at home, crying over a broken marriage.

Instead, Elena walked into the shareholders' meeting wearing a white tailored suit.

Her hair was pinned neatly.

Her expression was calm.

And beside her walked Rachel Bennett, carrying a thick black briefcase.

The room went silent.

Bianca stood at the front beside Victor Salerno.

“What are you doing here?” she demanded.

Elena smiled faintly.

“Attending a meeting involving my property.”

Bianca laughed.

“You don't own anything here.”

Rachel placed a document on the conference table.

“Actually, she does.”

Victor's smile faded.

Rachel continued.

“My client controls the Whitmore family trust, which holds substantial voting interests in the affected companies.”

Bianca glanced toward the board.

“Those shares were transferred.”

“No,” Rachel replied. “Someone filed a fraudulent transfer request.”

Elena looked directly at Bianca.

“And I know who.”

A lawyer seated beside Victor stood.

“These allegations are outrageous.”

Rachel opened the briefcase.

Inside were notarized trust records, handwriting analyses, and copies of the forged documents.

“Then you shouldn't object to an independent review.”

The chairman cleared his throat.

“We cannot proceed with contested proxy votes.”

Bianca's face flushed.

“You're going to let a housewife destroy a major transaction?”

Elena turned slowly.

For eight years, she'd been called many things.

Quiet.

Modest.

Unambitious.

A woman who stayed home while powerful men conducted business.

Now she looked at Bianca without lowering her eyes.

“You called me a housewife as though it were an insult.”

Bianca folded her arms.

“And?”

Elena's voice remained steady.

“I managed my husband's home. I cared for his mother. I supported his employees. And while you were enjoying champagne, I was identifying the financial discrepancies your people thought nobody would notice.”

A murmur spread through the room.

Elena continued.

“You mistook my silence for ignorance.”

Bianca's smile disappeared.

“And my kindness for weakness.”

Rachel handed the chairman a formal objection.

The meeting was suspended pending a review of the disputed shares.

Victor leaned toward Elena.

“You've made a dangerous mistake.”

She looked at him.

“Then explain it to my attorney.”

Two federal investigators entered the room.

Victor stopped smiling.

But before the agents could speak, Bianca suddenly laughed.

“Oh, Elena. You think you won?”

Elena turned.

Bianca lifted her phone.

On the screen was a live video.

Isabella Moretti sat inside an unfamiliar room.

Her hands were trembling.

A masked man stood behind her.

Bianca lowered her voice.

“Your precious mother-in-law is about to learn what happens when you interfere.”

Elena's face went white.

Then Bianca whispered the demand.

“Give me the ring, Elena.”

May you like

And Elena realized Bianca didn't understand that the original ring was already in federal custody.

The woman threatening Isabella was acting on information that was dangerously out of date.
