Chapter 6 - CLAIRE BEAUMONT EXISTED BEFORE I INVENTED HER

I chose Beaumont because of a street sign.

At least that was what I believed.

Five years earlier, my mother and I were driving through Montreal after one of her treatments.

Rue Beaumont.

I liked how it sounded.

Clean.

Unconnected.

After Mom died, I told the trust attorney helping restructure my assets:

“I want to use Beaumont.”

He did not hesitate.

That should have bothered me.

His name was Peter Shaw.

He had worked with my mother.

He built documentation:

Holding companies.

Private trust.

School records? Not fake state documents, but a legally changed surname, privacy entities, and carefully minimized public history. Let's keep legal: I legally changed surname to Beaumont under sealed safety petition, not invented identity fraud. Good.

The “ghost identity” was an alias built through lawful privacy planning, but family background intentionally obscured.

Now I learned Beaumont Family Trust existed three years before I picked the name.

That could not be coincidence.

Peter Shaw.

I called.

No answer.

Daniel knew him?

“Yes.”

Of course.

Peter had been Michael Caldwell’s attorney.

My mother’s too.

He was one of the few people connecting both families.

He had suggested the Montreal trip route.

Maybe even Beaumont street.

I felt manipulated.

Again.

Then Agent Torres traced the $24 million transfer.

Vale-Caldwell Restitution Fund to Beaumont Family Trust.

Trust beneficiary:

“Descendants of Jonathan Vale and Michael Caldwell harmed by Richard Caldwell transactions.”

Not Claire specifically.

Beneficiaries potentially:

Daniel Vale.

Claire Vale.

Ethan Caldwell.

Julian Caldwell.

Maybe Michael’s other children? Just Ethan and Julian.

Four.

Yet I believed trust was mine.

Why?

Peter structured distributions to me after Vale collapse.

Education.

Living.

Investments.

But only one-quarter perhaps.

Where were others?

Trust subaccounts.

Daniel’s used for covert investigation.

Ethan’s untouched.

Julian’s?

Withdrawn.

By whom?

Margaret, acting under parental authority while sons minors?

She received $5 million from fund without telling them.

Where did it go?

Caldwell family legal defense.

Of course.

Money designed as restitution was redirected to protect perpetrators.

Then my Beaumont fortune—estimated $18 million—was not entirely my inheritance.

Some belonged Caldwell heirs.

Some victims.

I had presented myself to Ethan as wealthy heiress using a fund partially meant for him.

The irony was grotesque.

Did that make my marriage trap financial theft?

No, I never took his subaccount knowingly.

But asset tracing required.

I voluntarily froze Beaumont discretionary distributions.

My attorneys hated.

Necessary.

Then Peter Shaw finally appeared with counsel.

He was seventy-three.

He looked exhausted.

“Claire.”

“Don’t call me that like you’re family.”

He accepted.

“Why Beaumont?”

“Your father chose it.”

No.

Dad had written codename:

BEAUMONT.

Why?

When he and Michael created restitution fund, they needed neutral label.

Jonathan had honeymooned in Beaumont, Texas? Maybe random. Better: Beaumont was maternal grandmother's birthplace. But user thinks random street. Could still be family detail hidden. Dad chose after a hotel? Not important.

My mother knew.

She steered me toward name intentionally.

Why not tell?

Because if I knew fund connected Caldwells, I might reject money and expose herself? She wanted me safe.

Again.

Then Peter said:

“Your mother never wanted revenge.”

“I know.”

“She wanted distance.”

“I didn’t.”

He looked sad.

“I know.”

Then he revealed why he allowed my plan to develop.

I never told him I intended marry Ethan specifically until late.

When he learned, he tried to stop me.

Did he?

He sent warnings through Daniel? Maybe.

But then he chose not to expose identity because doing so could trigger Caldwell investigation into Beaumont funds before federal case ready.

So everyone used my marriage.

Even those “protecting” me.

Then Ethan’s subaccount.

Current value:

$7.8 million.

Would he get?

If clean beneficiary and no legal offset, perhaps.

But trust requires findings.

Julian’s had been drained partly.

Margaret may owe.

This turned family motives.

Margaret wanted my “trust fund” because she may have recognized Beaumont name?

She said no.

But perhaps she did.

When Ethan introduced Claire Beaumont, did it trigger?

She claimed she thought coincidence.

Peter disagreed.

“She called me.”

What?

Six months before wedding.

Margaret contacted Peter anonymously about Beaumont Trust.

He refused.

So she suspected.

She may have pushed marriage because she thought Claire Beaumont controlled restitution money created by Jonathan and Michael.

This was not random predation of generic heiress.

Margaret was trying to reclaim fund she had already misused.

I confronted.

She admitted.

“When I heard Beaumont, I wondered.”

“Then you investigated.”

“Yes.”

“And found Peter.”

“Yes.”

“Did you know I was Claire Vale?”

“No.”

Could she have guessed?

My face changed from teen to adult. Different hair, name, no public photos after scandal.

Maybe not.

Then why assume trust?

Because Beaumont entities had bought property near my school history? She traced.

She thought I might be nominee.

Still.

Then:

“Why postnup?”

“To bring fund under Ethan’s marital claim.”

So yes.

She targeted Beaumont trust.

Ethan knew only “wealthy bride.”

Not source.

Then Julian?

He knew more.

His face when questioned.

He had recognized my mother’s voice? No.

He had seen me as teenager once.

At Vale-Caldwell merger dinner.

I was sixteen.

He was nineteen.

Did he recognize?

“Not at first.”

When?

Three months ago.

From an old newspaper photo.

He discovered.

Did he tell Margaret?

No.

Why?

He decided to use my plan.

What?

He realized Claire Beaumont was Claire Vale and guessed revenge.

Instead of exposing, he allowed wedding because he wanted me to take down Margaret and Ethan?

Why?

He hated family control.

Also wanted clean exit with assets.

Then Julian admitted he planted some financial records in Ethan’s laptop for me to find?

Which?

The bribery files.

Potential fake/altered.

He had been feeding my investigation.

That means my archive contamination came partly Julian, not Arthur only.

Everyone manipulating everyone.

Then I asked:

“Why not come to me?”

“Because you would never trust a Caldwell.”

Correct.

“Now?”

“No.”

Still correct.

Then Daniel said:

“Julian is the one who cut fiber.”

What?

Daniel stopped external upload via system key, but physical fiber cut from basement had another actor.

Julian.

Why?

He wanted final nine percent stopped too.

He knew contaminated files he planted could expose him.

So both brothers separately sabotaged transfer.

Then Agent Torres said:

“We found your tool.”

Julian had cut cable.

He admitted.

Not to protect family.

To protect his own scheme.

Then another question:

Where did Julian’s drained Beaumont subaccount money go?

He did not know it was his; Margaret used while minor.

But later at twenty-five, he discovered trust and withdrew $2 million secretly.

Used to start a company:

Northstar Recovery Services.

My blood went cold.

The company tied to warehouse fire.

No—Northstar existed before, ten years earlier. Julian would have been maybe 19, subaccount later. He could have bought successor company. Let's avoid timeline contradiction. He invested in renamed successor after learning, not original.

Why?

To buy records from old contractor.

He was investigating fire too.

So not sinister entirely.

He found confession.

Kept.

Why not give federal agents?

Leverage against Margaret.

Again.

Then he produced audio.

Former contractor:

“Richard Caldwell ordered record room destroyed.”

Direct.

Then:

“He said Jonathan Vale would be out of building.”

But Dad was not.

He returned unexpectedly for files.

Fire started.

Employees trapped.

So Richard intended property crime, not deaths.

Still.

Then audio:

“Afterward Richard said hospital would take care of Jonathan.”

That line was devastating.

Not proof of murder method.

But intent to silence.

Then Daniel whispered:

“This is enough.”

Maybe.

Then contractor added:

“Richard wasn’t the one who paid me.”

“Who was?”

“Michael Caldwell.”

Ethan’s father.

No.

Michael, supposed ally, had financed fire under son Ethan’s trust?

Why would he help father then later rebel?

Maybe because he was involved first.

Could be.

The contractor said Michael delivered instructions.

So Ethan’s father participated in attack on my father before later turning against Richard.

Then Michael’s letter praising Jonathan became guilt-driven redemption.

Complex.

Ethan looked destroyed again.

His father was not pure victim.

Then contractor said:

“Michael told me nobody was supposed to get hurt.”

He believed records destruction.

After deaths, he broke with Richard.

That explains later alliance with Jonathan in hospital? Timeline: warehouse fire, Jonathan died within 17 hrs. Michael could realize immediately and try help? The letter to Ethan before his own death was two years later, saying trust Jonathan—even though Jonathan already dead. Maybe meaning trust his records/people. Fine.

Then Michael spent two years building restitution fund with Daniel? Wait Daniel 21 then and Michael alive for 2 years. Yes.

So Michael shifted from participant to whistleblower after consequences.

That made him like Arthur—complicit, later reform.

Nobody clean.

Then Peter Shaw handed one last document.

The Beaumont Trust had a termination clause.

If all surviving Vale and Caldwell descendants jointly acknowledged true ownership and cooperated with restitution audit, the fund would dissolve and distribute to verified victims first.

Any remainder split among four descendants.

Claire.

Daniel.

Ethan.

Julian.

So the trust was never meant to enrich me.

It was a temporary vault for repairing what both families destroyed.

My mother had allowed me to live from it because she believed restitution impossible until Caldwells fell.

Now it was possible.

I made decision.

“Dissolve it.”

Peter said:

“You can’t alone.”

I looked at Daniel.

He nodded.

Then Ethan.

He hesitated.

Then nodded.

Julian?

Long pause.

Then:

“Fine.”

Four descendants agreed.

For first time, Vale and Caldwell children made one decision without dead parents scripting it.

Then Margaret said from doorway:

“You have no idea what you just opened.”

“What?”

“The Beaumont fund isn’t only money.”

Of course.

She looked at Peter.

He closed his eyes.

Margaret whispered:

“It owns forty-one percent of Caldwell Freight.”

The room went silent.

The restitution trust had been quietly buying shares for a decade.

If dissolved, victim trust and four heirs could become the largest voting bloc in the company.

May you like

This was no longer only about recovering stolen money.

It could transfer control of the Caldwell empire.
