Chapter 6 - THE BABY TRUST FILLED WITH STOLEN MONEY

Madison claimed she knew nothing about the eighty-million-dollar trust.
Her signature appeared on the documents.
So did Jason’s.
The trust had been created in the Cayman Islands.
Its stated purpose was to support a future Caldwell family heir.
Jason had named the unborn child before the pregnancy reached six months.
Alexander Jason Caldwell.
He intended the boy to inherit money stolen from company accounts.
The transfers came from research grants, employee pension contributions, and funds reserved for a cybersecurity upgrade.
Without the upgrade, several hospital clients remained vulnerable to data breaches.
Jason had risked patient information to create a private fortune.
Madison’s attorney advised cooperation.
She surrendered passwords, private emails, and financial devices.
In exchange, prosecutors considered reduced charges.
The messages revealed that Jason promised her a life far larger than the one he actually controlled.
A mansion.
Private schools.
Board membership.
A personal foundation.
He told her I was infertile, emotionally unstable, and financially insignificant.
She believed humiliating me would clear the final obstacle.
“Did you love him?” Detective Bennett asked.
Madison looked at her stomach.
“I loved who he said we would become.”
That was not the same as loving the person in front of her.
Jason had sold futures the way he sold false contracts.
With confidence.
Details.
And no intention of delivering them honestly.
A medical examination confirmed the pregnancy was genuine.
However, DNA testing requested through Madison’s attorney created another shock.
Jason was not the biological father.
Madison stared at the results.
“That’s impossible.”
The child’s biological father was Adrian.
Her own brother was immediately excluded by genetics.
The name listed in her private messages was Adrian’s business partner, Cole Mercer.
Cole had been involved with Madison before she began seeing Jason.
She believed the relationship ended before conception.
Jason knew there was uncertainty.
He chose not to test.
A pregnant mistress improved his image in the private narrative he had built.
He could present himself as a man denied fatherhood by his wife.
Madison’s pregnancy was useful whether the baby was his or not.
When Jason learned the result, he shouted that Madison had trapped him.
She laughed bitterly.
“You were stealing eighty million dollars for a child you never confirmed was yours.”
“You wanted to be trapped.”
The trust documents became evidence of intent.
Jason had not transferred the money out of paternal devotion.
He planned to control it through offshore structures.
The baby’s name was camouflage.
Cole Mercer was arrested for helping Adrian move stolen data.
He denied knowledge of the larger scheme.
Then agents found messages in which he discussed relocating Olivia permanently.
The conspiracy widened again.
Caldwell Technologies faced collapse.
I finally authorized part of the investment.
Not one-point-four billion dollars.
Four hundred million in emergency funding.
The money came with strict controls.
Payroll.
Client security.
Whistleblower compensation.
No executive bonuses.
No acquisition plans.
Every dollar required independent approval.
Employees remained employed.
Hospitals received the delayed cybersecurity upgrade.
The company survived long enough for truth to finish its work.
I became interim chair.
Jason wrote me from jail.
He claimed the company had always been his family legacy.
The name Caldwell came from his grandfather.
But Jason was not a founder.
His uncle Richard had hired him only after I intervened.
The legacy he claimed had never belonged to him.
Then Evelyn brought me a sealed letter found inside Olivia’s copied files.
It came from Jason’s father, Thomas Caldwell, who had died seven years earlier.
The letter warned Richard never to give Jason financial authority.
Thomas believed his son had been involved in the disappearance of a former girlfriend.
Her name was Claire Donovan.
May you like
She had vanished twelve years earlier.
And the last person seen with her was Jason.
