Chapter 7 - THE UNCLE WHO WANTED THE CHILDREN

:

Victor revealed the truth.

The Sterling empire had never truly belonged to my father.

It belonged to the bloodline.

The legal trusts were only temporary structures.

The final ownership depended on a genetic succession clause.

The original bloodline had fragmented.

My father.

Isabelle.

Daniel.

Me.

Lily.

Chloe.

Each carried a portion of the original family authorization.

Victor wanted to eliminate enough heirs to consolidate the authority.

Adrian had helped.

The explosion was supposed to eliminate three.

My father.

Lily.

Daniel.

It failed.

Victor became obsessed with finishing it.

He had manipulated Adrian.

Used the family.

Used the courts.

Used the police.

All to create fear.

But Victor made one mistake.

He underestimated Lily.

She remembered everything.

The lakehouse.

The explosion.

Daniel rescuing her.

The secret rooms.

The woman who protected her.

And she remembered Victor.

“He was there.”

I froze.

“When?”

“The night of the fire.”

Victor's smile disappeared.

Lily pointed.

“He told Daddy to leave me.”

Victor raised his weapon.

Marcus fired.

Victor ducked.

Chaos erupted.

Glass shattered.

Gunfire filled the room.

I grabbed Lily.

Daniel pulled Chloe behind a stone pillar.

Isabelle covered Marcus.

Adrian appeared from the upper balcony.

He wasn't firing.

He was staring at Victor.

“Stop.”

Victor turned.

“You.”

Adrian lowered his weapon.

“I know.”

Victor laughed.

“You're weak.”

“No.”

Adrian looked at me.

“I made a mistake.”

Victor raised his gun.

“You ruined everything.”

Adrian stepped between Victor and the children.

The shot rang out.

Adrian fell.

I screamed.

“Adrian!”

Victor disappeared through the rear corridor.

Marcus chased him.

I dropped beside my brother.

Blood spread across his coat.

He opened his eyes.

“I’m sorry.”

I shook my head.

“Don't talk.”

“I thought power would make me safe.”

“You were wrong.”

“Yes.”

He looked toward Lily.

“She knows.”

Lily stepped closer.

Adrian smiled.

“You survived.”

She nodded.

He looked at Chloe.

“And you.”

Chloe reached for his hand.

He whispered:

“I'm sorry.”

Then his eyes closed.

For a moment, I thought he was dead.

But the paramedics arrived.

Alive.

Barely.

The fight was not over.

Victor had escaped.

And the final trust remained.

The one containing the empire.

But Lily stepped forward.

“Daddy.”

I looked at her.

“What?”

“I know where Uncle Victor is.”

I froze.

“Where?”

“The room under Grandma's house.”

The old estate.

The one abandoned for twenty years.

We drove there.

Inside was a hidden command center.

Victor sat surrounded by monitors.

He looked at us.

“You shouldn't have come.”

I stepped forward.

“You killed too many people.”

He smiled.

“Family always costs something.”

“No.”

I looked at Lily.

“Not anymore.”

Victor laughed.

“You think love changes blood?”

“No.”

I held out the locket.

“It changes what blood means.”

He stared.

I touched the locket to the console.

The system activated.

Every account.

Every document.

Every recording.

Everything was released to federal authorities.

Victor's empire collapsed in seconds.

Sirens approached.

He stared at me.

“You destroyed everything.”

I nodded.

“Yes.”

He looked broken.

“Why?”

“Because my daughter is more valuable than your empire.”

Victor was arrested.

His network collapsed.

Adrian survived surgery.

Daniel survived.

Isabelle returned home.

The children were safe.

But one final problem remained.

Who would inherit the empire?

May you like

The answer was simple.

Nobody.
