Chapter 8 - BLACKWOOD'S LAST MOVE

The lights turned on.
Dozens of men stood around the warehouse.
At the center was a man in a gray suit.
Evelyn whispered:
“Blackwood.”
He smiled.
“Evelyn.”
My father stepped forward.
“You've lost.”
Blackwood laughed.
“No.”
He looked at me.
“I finally have what I wanted.”
I froze.
“What?”
“Your signature.”
He held up a tablet.
The forged transfer document.
“We altered the records.”
Evelyn looked shocked.
“You can't.”
“We already did.”
Blackwood looked at Marcus.
“You were useful.”
Marcus said nothing.
Then Blackwood turned to me.
“Your father built a fortune.”
“You wanted it.”
“I wanted control.”
“Why?”
“Because your father discovered something.”
“What?”
Blackwood smiled.
“The trust wasn't just money.”
He pointed toward me.
“It contains evidence of every illegal acquisition we ever made.”
My father nodded.
“And you never found it.”
Blackwood's smile faded.
“Until tonight.”
He stepped closer.
“Sign the transfer.”
I looked at the tablet.
Then at Marcus.
He gave me the smallest shake of his head.
Don't.
I smiled.
“Okay.”
Marcus looked shocked.
I took the stylus.
Blackwood smiled.
I signed.
The room went silent.
He looked at the screen.
Then his smile disappeared.
“What did you do?”
I held up my phone.
“I didn't sign your transfer.”
I turned the screen toward him.
I had signed a digital confession.
Every conversation.
Every transaction.
Every threat.
Everything had been recorded.
Evelyn smiled.
“Federal agents have the complete transmission.”
Blackwood stared at me.
“You tricked me.”
“No.”
I looked at him.
“You underestimated me.”
The warehouse doors exploded open.
Agents stormed inside.
Blackwood tried to run.
He was arrested.
The men around him surrendered.
And for the first time, I realized something.

My father hadn't raised a helpless daughter.
He had raised someone who could survive the truth.
