Chapter 9 - THE LAST SECRET OF THE DE LUCA FAMILY

:
Isabella came the following morning.
She walked through the front door without security.
No fear.
No weapon.
Just a small suitcase.
My mother ran toward her.
They embraced.
Two sisters reunited after decades.
I stood nearby.
Confused.
My father looked terrified.
“Isabella.”
She nodded.
“You lied to me.”
He looked down.
“I had to.”
“You told me you were dead.”
“To protect the children.”
She looked at me.
“I was protecting you.”
I couldn't believe it.
“Why?”
She explained.
She had been my father's first wife.
Their marriage had been illegal only because my grandfather had arranged another one.
She had given birth to a daughter.
Me.
My father later married my mother.
Everyone had hidden the truth.
I stared.
“Then who is my biological mother?”
She pointed toward my mother.
“Her.”
I shook my head.
“You said you were my father's wife.”
“Yes.”
“Then who am I?”
She smiled.
“Family.”
The entire room went silent.
The complicated truth was simpler than it had appeared.
Blood had been manipulated.
Names changed.
Records forged.
But I was their son.
Their child.
Their family.
The trust was based on choice.
Not genetics.
Isabella had hidden herself because she had been the final witness against my grandfather.
She had survived.
She had protected the children from afar.
She had sent the locket.
She had watched Chloe.
And she had been the mysterious voice from the phone.
But one question remained.
“Why now?”
She looked at me.
“Because the last enemy is gone.”
“Who?”
She smiled.
“Your grandfather.”
My heart stopped.
“My grandfather died thirty years ago.”
“No.”
“He did.”
“He didn't.”
I stared.
The old man had been living under another identity.
He had been controlling the family from outside the country.
Every villain we had fought had been connected to him.
Victor.
Victoria.
Derek.
All of them.
Isabella handed me a photograph.
My grandfather.
Alive.
Standing outside a Boston courthouse.
Taken yesterday.
I stared.
“Where is he?”
She looked toward the window.
“Looking for you.”
Then the lights flickered.
A black SUV stopped outside.
My father stood.
“Everyone downstairs.”
I grabbed Lily.
Sophie took Chloe.
Luca took my mother.
Marcus locked the doors.
Outside, men surrounded the house.
But this time—
we were ready.
The old family had built its power through fear.
We would end it through truth.
I opened the final trust file.
A message appeared.
SURRENDER THE HEIR.
I smiled.
The system required my signature.
I entered it.
Then selected:
DISSOLVE.
The trust opened.
Every hidden file was released.
Every account frozen.
Every criminal connection exposed.
Federal agencies received everything.
The men outside fled.
The SUV disappeared.
And the final message appeared:
FAMILY STATUS: FREE.
I looked at Lily.
She smiled.
“Can we eat now?”
I laughed.
“Yes.”
Chloe raised her hand.
“No empty chairs.”
“No empty chairs.”
We moved toward the kitchen.
Then someone knocked.
Three soft knocks.
I froze.
The same sound that had started everything.
I opened the door.
A little boy stood there.
Maybe four years old.
Holding a worn teddy bear.
“Are you Marco?”
I crouched.
“Yes.”
“My mom said I have to give you this.”
He handed me a small envelope.
Inside was one line:
Your family isn't finished.
I looked at the boy.
“What's your name?”
He smiled.
“Daniel.”
I stared.
Daniel.
The name of my father's long-dead son.
The story hadn't ended.
It had changed.
May you like
And perhaps—
that was the point.
