Chapter 10 - THE BROTHER BENEATH THE HOSPITALVictor took one step forward.

“Adrian?”
His brother smiled.
“You look like you've seen a ghost.”
Victor's jaw tightened.
“I buried you.”
“You buried an empty coffin.”
Chloe instinctively moved closer to Rebecca.
Gabriel raised his pistol, keeping it trained downward until he could assess the threat.
Adrian looked amused.
“Still loyal, Gabriel?”
Victor ignored the remark.
“Where is Liam?”
“Alive. For the moment.”
“Take me to him.”
Adrian laughed.
“You always did think you could solve everything by giving orders.”
Rebecca suddenly spoke.
“Adrian supervised the experiments after Mercy burned.”
Chloe stared at him.
“You hurt my brother?”
Adrian's smile disappeared.
“I maintained a research program your mother nearly destroyed.”
Victor moved toward him.
Adrian stepped backward and lifted a small remote.
“Careful. The lower-level security system is connected to the emergency doors.”
Gabriel checked his phone.
“Victor, federal agents are entering the building.”
Adrian's expression shifted.
“You brought the government here?”
Victor replied, “I brought witnesses.”
For the first time, Adrian looked genuinely frightened.
Then the lights went out.
A heavy mechanical sound echoed through the corridor.
Emergency shutters began descending.
Chloe pulled Rebecca away from the doorway.
Victor caught the edge of one shutter long enough for them to crawl beneath it.
Gabriel followed.
Adrian disappeared into the darkness.
Minutes later, emergency generators restored the lights.
They found a locked medical room.
Inside, Liam lay unconscious.
Chloe ran to him.
“Liam!”
His eyes opened slightly.
“Chloe?”
She began crying.
“Oh, thank God.”
Victor called for the medical team.
Liam weakly gripped Chloe's hand.
“Don't trust Adrian.”
“I know.”
“No.” Liam swallowed painfully. “He isn't the one in charge.”
Chloe froze.
“What do you mean?”
Liam looked toward Victor.
“Someone has been visiting me every month.”
“Who?”
Liam's voice dropped.
“A woman.”
Rebecca stepped forward.
“Describe her.”
Liam closed his eyes.
“Dark hair. Silver necklace. Butterfly pendant.”
Victor felt the world tilt.
“Elena?”
Liam nodded.
May you like
Then he whispered the secret that changed everything.
“She told me the experiments would continue until Victor was dead.”
