Chapter 4 - The Lion's Den

The Grand Ballroom of the Pierre Hotel was an ocean of shimmering crystal, vintage Dom Pérignon, and the deafening roar of high-society self-congratulation.
Seven hundred of the wealthiest individuals in the Western Hemisphere mingled beneath gilded archways, clinking glasses to the impending coronation of Jaxson Vance.
Jaxson stood on the elevated VIP dais, radiant in his custom tuxedo, holding a crystal flute of vintage champagne while basking in the adulation of Manhattan's elite.
His hair was perfectly styled, his smile radiant with unearned arrogance, his chest puffed out like a peacock conquering a private garden.
Beside him, Bianca Caldwell leaned into his arm, her diamond earrings catching the glare of dozens of society camera crews broadcasting live across global business networks.
“To the visionary of our generation!” a prominent hedge fund billionaire shouted, raising his glass toward Jaxson.
“Jaxson Vance has unified the global aerospace supply chain under a single American titan!”
Jaxson flashed a charming, practiced smile for the cameras, raising his hand in benevolent triumph.
“Thank you, my friends,” Jaxson spoke smoothly into the golden podium microphone.
“True success does not come from luck or heritage.”
“It comes from vision, unyielding strength, and the willingness to crush any obstacle that stands in the way of progress.”
Bianca laughed softly, whispering into his ear so close the microphone caught the trace of her voice.
“You certainly crushed that pathetic waitress this afternoon, darling.”
Jaxson chuckled under his breath, taking a slow sip of his champagne.
“Some creatures are born to serve coffee, Bianca,” Jaxson murmured with cold amusement.
“And some are born to rule the world.”
Suddenly, the massive twelve-foot mahogany double doors at the rear of the grand ballroom shuddered.
The soft classical waltz playing from the orchestra pit sputtered into an awkward, chaotic halt.
A heavy, suffocating pressure dropped over the entire ballroom, as if the atmospheric oxygen had been instantly replaced with liquid nitrogen.
Four towering men in tailored tactical power suits stepped through the entrance, their silver falcon lapel pins gleaming in the chandelier light.
They did not ask for security credentials.
They did not acknowledge the security guards who moved forward to intercept them.
With two swift, synchronized movements, the Vance private security team was disarmed, pinned to the marble pillars, and neutralized without a single gunshot.
The sea of billionaires parted like the Red Sea before an approaching storm.

And then, the sound of four-inch diamond-studded Christian Louboutin heels clicked against the parquet floor.
The rhythm was slow, hypnotic, and filled with the terrifying certainty of impending doom.
