Chapter 14 - THE EMPIRE DANTE WAS WILLING TO BURN

Dante did not run.

That surprised everyone.

Federal agents escorted him downstairs while news crews gathered outside.

Talia followed.

“You can’t let them arrest you.”

“I’m not.”

“They have your signature.”

“They have a copy of it.”

“That could take months to prove.”

Dante looked at Vincent.

“Unless someone kept the originals.”

Vincent understood.

“Your father’s archive.”

Dante nodded.

Hidden beneath the headquarters of Marchelli Security was a physical record of every transaction Dante had approved for twelve years.

Paper.

Ink.

Fingerprints.

Impossible to remotely alter.

They reached the archive before dawn.

Federal investigators compared the records.

Cross’s forged timestamps showed Dante authorizing shipments while he was documented in other countries.

One file had been signed while Dante was undergoing surgery.

Another used a corporate seal retired six years earlier.

The case collapsed quickly.

But Dante did something nobody expected.

He handed investigators everything.

Not only evidence against Cross.

Everything connected to his own family’s old criminal operations.

Vincent stared at him.

“You understand what this could cost you?”

“Yes.”

“Companies. Properties. Money.”

“Yes.”

“Your father’s empire.”

Dante looked through the glass wall toward Talia.

“No.”

Vincent frowned.

Dante said quietly, “My father’s empire ended when he decided I should build something better.”

Within hours, dozens of arrests were made.

Corrupt officials resigned.

Cross Meridian accounts were frozen.

Lucian Cross was charged under his real identity.

Mateo accepted a deal in exchange for testimony.

And Dante?

Dante walked free.

Not untouched.

Not innocent of every family legacy.

But free to choose what came next.

Outside the courthouse, Talia approached him.

“What now?”

Dante looked at the cameras.

Then at her.

“I shut down every remaining operation I wouldn’t be proud to put your name beside.”

“You’re changing your entire life?”

“No.”

He stepped closer.

“I started changing it years ago.”

He handed her a folder.

Talia opened it.

Inside were incorporation papers for Marchelli Protective Services, a completely legitimate security company.

Her name was listed beside his.

Equal ownership.

She looked up.

“You planned this?”

“My father did.”

Dante showed her the final letter from his father’s safe.

The last sentence contained a secret Dante had never told her.

IF YOU FIND NATALIA VALE, DON’T SAVE HER. LET HER SAVE YOU.

Dante smiled.

“My father wasn’t searching for you because you needed me.”

“He knew I needed you.”
