Chapter 8 - THE THREE SECONDS THE INTERNET NEVER SAW

Rose did not remember deciding.

One second Serena was smiling.

The next, banana cream exploded across her face.

Then silence.

The exact silence from the beginning.

Three seconds.

Then Serena screamed.

“Someone call the police!”

Luca’s security moved.

Stopped when Luca looked at them.

Rose’s entire future seemed to collapse in slow motion.

Her bakery.

Tessa’s scholarship.

The claim.

Everything.

Then Serena pulled out her phone.

“You’re finished.”

Rose’s stomach dropped.

“You were recording?”

Serena smiled beneath cream.

“Some of it.”

That phrase mattered.

Some of it.

Within fifteen minutes, the clip was online.

It began with Rose saying:

“Say fat one more time.”

Then Serena:

“Fat.”

Then pie.

No earlier insults.

No threat about Luca.

No reference to the bakery.

No Victor.

By midnight:

2.4 million views.

Psycho baker attacks woman at memorial.

Plus-size chef loses control.

Violent caterer destroys event.

Rose read exactly three comments.

Then stopped.

At 1:00 a.m., two wedding clients canceled.

At 1:17, the scholarship foundation emailed Tessa.

Due to ongoing public controversy surrounding household financial sponsor, final award decision will be delayed.

Rose sat on her bakery floor.

“I ruined everything.”

Dana sat beside her.

“No.”

“I threw a pie.”

“Yes.”

“On camera.”

“Yes.”

“Please become less supportive.”

Dana handed her water.

Then the bell rang.

Luca entered.

Rose stood immediately.

“I don’t need rescuing.”

“I know.”

“Then why are you here?”

“To give you something.”

He placed a memory card on the counter.

“What?”

“Security footage.”

Rose stared.

“From the ballroom?”

“Yes.”

“Your family records guests?”

“My family records breathing.”

She almost laughed.

The footage showed everything.

Serena approaching.

The conversation.

Her insults.

Rose warning her twice.

Carmela handing Rose the pie.

Most importantly, Serena said:

Victor will destroy your bakery before he lets you open those books.

Rose went still.

“That was before the pie.”

“Yes.”

“If we release this—”

“We don’t.”

She looked at him.

“What?”

“Not yet.”

“Why?”

“Because Victor will claim the video was edited by Benedetti security.”

Rose hated that he was right.

Again.

“Then what?”

A voice came from behind Luca.

“Use mine.”

Dana stood holding her phone.

Rose stared.

“You recorded it?”

“Not intentionally.”

Dana had been filming the dessert table for the bakery’s social account.

The camera captured the entire confrontation from another angle.

Independent device.

Continuous timestamp.

Audio intact.

Rose’s pulse accelerated.

“The beginning.”

Dana nodded.

“All of it.”

By morning, Serena’s version had twelve million views.

Rose’s full clip had not been posted.

Yet.

Because Rose wanted one thing first.

She called Serena.

“Meet me.”

“Why would I?”

“Because your father threatened Tessa.”

Silence.

Then Serena’s voice changed.

“What?”

Rose understood immediately.

May you like

Serena had not known.

And perhaps the sister who hated Rose was about to discover Victor Vance had been using both of them.
