Chapter 7 - THE LAST HEIR

The man entered slowly.
He wore an expensive black suit.
No weapon.
No fear.
He looked at Sophia.
“Hello, sister.”
Sophia froze.
“My brother?”
The man smiled.
“You were always the sentimental one.”
Ethan stared.
“Who are you?”
“Daniel Hale.”
Richard's expression hardened.
“You died.”
Daniel laughed.
“Apparently not.”
He looked at the vault.
“My father spent thirty years building an empire.”
“He's dead,” Ethan said.
“His empire isn't.”
Daniel held up a phone.
“Every account. Every company. Every secret.”
He smiled.
“And now I control all of it.”
Sophia stepped forward.
“You used me.”
“Yes.”
“You told me the Whitmores killed my mother.”
“I told you what you needed to hear.”
She looked devastated.
Daniel continued.
“You framed Richard perfectly.”
Ethan clenched his fists.
“You nearly got my father arrested.”
“Collateral damage.”
Richard stepped forward.
“You should have left my family alone.”
Daniel smiled.
“You don't have a family anymore.”
Then he pressed a button.
Ethan's phone began receiving alerts.
Bank accounts frozen.
Companies locked.
Trusts suspended.
Daniel had already taken control.
“You see?”
He smiled.
“Your father built everything.”
“And I just took it.”
Sophia looked at Ethan.
“What do we do?”
Ethan looked at Richard.
For years, he had believed his father was merely an old businessman.
Now he understood.
Richard had survived decades of secrets.
He had protected everyone.
Even Sophia.
Ethan stepped forward.
“We fight.”
Daniel laughed.
“With what?”
Richard smiled.
“With the part of the estate your father forgot.”
Daniel's expression changed.
“What?”
Richard looked at the vault.
“Your father wasn't the only one who prepared for the future.”
He pulled a small key from his pocket.
“The Whitmore family trust has a secondary beneficiary.”
Daniel stared.
“Who?”
Richard looked at Sophia.
“You.”
Sophia froze.
“My mother?”
“No.”
Richard smiled.
“Your mother named you.”
Daniel's face darkened.
“And the trust?”
Richard nodded.
“Cannot be controlled by anyone except Sophia.”
Daniel suddenly realized his mistake.
He had used Sophia to destroy the family.
But in doing so…
he had given her control of the one asset he could never access.
Sophia looked at Richard.
“Why would you do that?”
“Because your mother trusted me.”
Then Daniel's phone rang.
He answered.
His expression changed.
“What?”
He listened.
Then slowly looked at Richard.
“The FBI?”
May you like
Richard smiled.
“Your accounts just became evidence.”
