Chapter 11 - THE DOCTOR WHO BUILT HEIRS

Dr. Harlow disappeared before sunrise.

His home was empty.

His clinic erased.

Bank accounts drained.

That told us one thing.

Victor was not the mastermind.

He was the financier.

Harlow was the architect.

Michael recovered in the hospital.

His first question was about Sophie.

Not me.

Not himself.

“Sophie safe?”

“Yes.”

He smiled.

“Good.”

I sat beside him.

“You knew Daniel—”

I stopped.

Wrong life.

Wrong lies.

There had been so many.

I corrected myself.

“You knew she wasn’t yours and still stayed.”

“I wanted her to be mine.”

“Why?”

His eyes filled.

“Because I loved you.”

I believed him.

But love built on secrets was still damaged.

“I don’t know what happens to us.”

“I know.”

He looked toward the door.

“Ethan does.”

I frowned.

“What?”

Michael smiled weakly.

“My brother looks at you like someone moved his entire world six inches to the left.”

I ignored that.

Mostly.

Ethan entered.

Michael immediately said:

“You’re welcome.”

“For what?”

“Nothing.”

Ethan glared at him.

For the first time, I saw them as brothers instead of feared men.

Then Eleanor arrived.

She had found Harlow’s hidden records.

Dozens of children had been conceived using stolen genetic material.

Most families never knew.

Some embryos were destroyed.

Some births hidden.

Some children raised under false parentage.

I felt sick.

“How many?”

“Seventeen confirmed.”

Ethan’s face hardened.

“We find them.”

“All of them?”

“All.”

Not as heirs.

Not as assets.

As victims.

That distinction mattered.

Then Eleanor placed one file separately.

“This one concerns Sophie.”

“What now?”

“Harlow selected her for a second reason.”

My stomach dropped.

“He wanted her born healthy.”

I frowned.

“What does that mean?”

Eleanor looked at Ethan.

“Your family carries a rare immune marker.”

“So?”

“Rachel does too.”

I felt cold.

“Harlow wasn’t creating an heir.”

Eleanor continued.

“He was creating a donor.”

“For who?”

She opened the final page.

PATIENT E.C.

Ethan read it.

His face changed.

“That’s me.”

May you like

I stared.

Sophie had been conceived because someone intended to use her biological material to treat a disease Ethan didn’t even know he had.
