Chapter 4 - THE COMPANY BUILT AROUND MY HOUSE

Mercer Family Ventures did not own anything.

Not yet.

That was the plan.

Lorraine wanted it to own the house.

Then vehicles.

Then any future “family investments.”

She had presented the idea to Daniel as estate planning.

He agreed to take twenty percent.

Trevor got forty.

Lorraine forty.

“Where am I?”

Daniel looked down.

“You weren’t included.”

I laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because apparently my income, house, car, and credit belonged to family when someone needed them—

but ownership did not.

Then I saw the operating agreement.

One clause caught my attention.

CAPITAL CONTRIBUTIONS MAY INCLUDE REAL PROPERTY TRANSFERRED BY MEMBERS OR RELATED HOUSEHOLDS.

Related households.

My house was the expected first asset.

The forged one-third deed to Lorraine was step one.

If she became an owner, she could later contribute her share to the LLC.

Then potentially pressure Daniel to contribute his.

That would place majority control outside me.

Maybe they could not lawfully take my remaining half.

But they could make my home legally complicated enough to exhaust me.

Maya called it:

“An attempt to create leverage.”

That phrase mattered.

They did not need to own everything.

Only enough to make saying no expensive.

Then I found meeting notes.

Mercer Family Ventures.

Three meetings.

All held in my dining room while I was at work.

Trevor had typed minutes.

APRIL 6:

Discussed Rachel’s high income and potential financing capacity.

APRIL 20:

Discussed real estate contribution.

MAY 3:

Lorraine proposed centralized household budgeting after move-in.

Centralized household budgeting.

The meal schedule.

The padlock.

Suddenly the refrigerator was not random cruelty.

It was rehearsal.

If Lorraine could decide when I ate in my own kitchen, perhaps eventually she could decide money too.

Then another note:

Daniel concerned Rachel may object to permanent arrangement.

LORRAINE:

Once family occupancy is established, she will adjust.

My skin crawled.

Trevor’s note:

If resistance, document emotional instability.

I stopped.

“What does that mean?”

Daniel looked shocked.

He had not seen that line.

Trevor had already lifted his phone when I carried the hammer.

“Show everyone how crazy you are.”

He had wanted the video.

Why?

Maybe social media.

Maybe something worse.

Maya asked for the video.

Trevor refused.

Police could potentially obtain relevant evidence through process if fraud investigation advanced.

But Genevieve? No sister here. Need another way.

Daniel texted Trevor:

Send me the video.

Trevor answered:

Why?

Daniel:

Because I’m in it.

Technically true.

Trevor sent a compressed copy.

We watched.

The framing was intentional.

It started after I entered with the hammer.

No footage of the locked refrigerator.

No footage of Lorraine saying I needed permission to eat.

Just me striking metal.

Then Lorraine yelling:

“She’s dangerous!”

I froze.

In the actual moment, I barely remembered that.

Then Trevor says:

“Daniel, get away from her.”

But Daniel was eight feet away.

Nobody was in danger.

It was theater.

Then another clip.

Recorded earlier.

Lorraine standing beside the locked fridge.

She looked into Trevor’s camera and smiled.

“Let’s see what she does.”

The entire confrontation had been bait.

They wanted me angry on camera.

Then we found the reason in the LLC notes.

Future objective:

Petition for protective occupancy if Rachel attempts immediate removal of family members.

Protective occupancy?

Maya searched.

There was no simple mechanism like that.

But Lorraine apparently believed she could claim she was vulnerable, established in the home, and afraid of me.

The hammer video would help paint a picture.

Then Maya discovered Lorraine had already scheduled a consultation with an elder-law attorney.

Not about eviction.

About financial exploitation.

The alleged exploiter:

May you like

Me.

My mother-in-law planned to accuse me of financially abusing her in the house I had paid for.
