Chapter 8 - THE WOMAN BEHIND THE EMPIRE

Julian survived.

But the shooting changed everything.

Federal investigators reopened every Sterling Meridian case.

They discovered dozens of shell companies.

Hidden accounts.

Bribed officials.

Forged trusts.

And one name appeared repeatedly.

Not Margaret.

Not Julian.

Not Victoria.

My mother's.

I couldn't understand it.

“My mother was a victim.”

My father looked at the documents.

“No.”

“What?”

“She wasn't.”

The truth was unbearable.

My mother had once been a financial architect for Sterling Meridian.

She had helped build the original network.

Then she discovered what Margaret was doing.

She tried to leave.

Margaret killed her.

But before she died, my mother hid the evidence.

That evidence was the sealed envelope my father had left for me.

The fertility report had been only the beginning.

Inside the original envelope was a tiny key.

My father recognized it immediately.

“Account 47.”

We accessed it.

Inside was enough evidence to destroy the Sterling family.

But there was one file marked:

ELENA — PERSONAL.

I opened it.

It contained a letter from my mother.

My daughter,

If you're reading this, everyone you trusted has probably lied to you.

But remember this.

You were never an accident.

You were the reason I tried to survive.

She explained that Margaret had planned to eliminate every heir who could challenge her control.

The twins were part of a manufactured succession plan.

Julian was meant to become CEO.

Victoria was meant to become the public mother of the Sterling heirs.

Elena was meant to disappear.

The $80 million was not a divorce settlement.

It was a purchase price.

For my silence.

I laughed bitterly.

They had offered me eighty million dollars to surrender an empire worth billions.

But the final paragraph made me stop.

There is one person who can destroy everything.

Not Margaret.

Not Julian.

You.

My mother had transferred a second controlling interest into my name.

I already owned fifty-one percent.

With her hidden shares, I now controlled seventy-eight percent.

Sterling Meridian was mine.

I looked at my father.

“They never owned this company.”

“No.”

“They only borrowed it.”

He smiled sadly.

“Exactly.”

The next morning, I called an emergency shareholder meeting.

Julian arrived in a wheelchair.

Victoria came with the twins.

Margaret was escorted from federal custody.

The entire board waited.

I stood at the head of the table.

“Effective immediately, Margaret Sterling is removed.”

The room erupted.

Then I said:

“Julian Sterling is also removed as CEO.”

Julian closed his eyes.

He didn't protest.

Because he finally understood.

May you like

The woman they had tried to erase...

now controlled everything.
