Chapter 5 - THE LAWYER WHO WROTE THE FAMILY’S LIES

Graham Price had prepared Martin’s will.
He created Tessa’s trust.
He also prepared the fraudulent guardianship used against Judith.
For twelve years, he represented every side of the family while serving only Bryce.
Police entered his office before the deletion completed.
Price attempted to destroy his computer with a fireplace tool.
Investigators recovered enough data to expose a second version of Martin’s will.
The one presented after his death left most assets to Judith and described the construction company as insolvent.
The original will was different.
It divided ownership between Tessa and Bryce but placed strict conditions on Bryce’s share.
He had to undergo independent financial oversight.
If he committed fraud against any family member, his interest transferred into a victim-compensation fund.
Bryce knew about the condition.
That was why Martin’s death alone was not enough.
Price needed to suppress the original will and create false company debts.
“Why did Price help him?” Tessa asked.
Webb showed her the payments.
Bryce had been paying Price for years.
But the relationship began earlier.
Graham Price was Bryce’s biological father.
Judith learned the truth only after Martin died.
She had been assaulted by Price during a company retreat thirty-eight years earlier.
She never told Martin because Price threatened to destroy the business and accuse her of an affair.
When Bryce was born, she believed Martin was his biological father.
Only later did Price reveal the truth.
“I still raised him as Martin’s son,” Judith said from her hospital bed.
“That was what he was.”
Biology did not change who Martin had been to Bryce.
But Price used the secret to manipulate him.
He told Bryce that Martin created Tessa’s trust because he always knew Bryce was not truly his child.
“Did Martin know?” Tessa asked.
“Not until the final year,” Judith replied.
Martin discovered the truth through medical testing.
He did not reject Bryce.
He tightened financial controls because Bryce was stealing.
Price reframed accountability as biological rejection.
Bryce accepted the version that excused him.
“He wanted a reason to hate Dad,” Tessa said.
Judith nodded sadly.
“And I gave Price the silence he needed.”
This did not make Judith responsible for Martin’s murder.
But secrecy had become the ground where Price cultivated resentment.
Price was arrested for conspiracy, evidence destruction, fraud, and his role in the guardianship network.
During questioning, he claimed Bryce acted independently.
Then investigators played recordings recovered from his office.
Price said:
Martin’s death solves the immediate problem.
Judith remains manageable.
Tessa lives far enough away to ignore.
The sentence struck Tessa harder than expected.
Ignore.
Her distance had been part of their risk assessment.
They counted on work, travel, and guilt keeping her from visiting.
Price later instructed Bryce on sedative doses and advised Kendra to keep Judith wearing heavy clothing to hide injuries.
He had not merely protected crimes afterward.
He directed them.
Yet one person remained unidentified.
The Green House records contained the signature of a supervising physician named Dr. Elaine Marlowe.
Tessa had no relative by that name.
Judith reacted immediately.
“Elaine is your aunt.”
Martin’s younger sister.
Tessa had been told Elaine died in a car accident before she was born.
She was alive.
She had trained as a neurologist and helped Dr. Sloan create false dementia diagnoses.
“Why would Dad say she died?” Tessa asked.
“He believed she did.”
Elaine disappeared after accusing Price of stealing from Martin’s first company.
A burned vehicle was found.
No body identification occurred.
Price later recruited her into Meridian.
But the files suggested she did not work willingly.
Monthly payments went to a private facility in West Virginia.
Elaine might have been both participant and prisoner.
Then Tessa received a call from an unknown number.
A woman’s voice said:
“Do not let Judith leave the hospital.”
“Who is this?”
“Your aunt.”
“What do you want?”
“To keep Bryce from finishing what Price started.”
“Bryce is in custody.”
The woman became silent.
May you like
Then whispered:
“No. The man they arrested is not your brother.”
