Chapter 9 - THE LAST TRAP

Baldric arrived at the abandoned Vance factory alone.
At least, that's what Elena believed.
He carried the original trust inside a leather case.
The building was dark.
“I'm here!”
A light came on.
Elena stood on a steel platform.
Arianne sat tied to a chair.
Gideon was beside her.
His eyes were full of tears.
“Dad!”
Baldric's heart broke.
“Gideon!”
Elena smiled.
“Put the trust on the floor.”
Baldric did.
“Now step away.”
He obeyed.
Elena walked toward the case.
“You were always smarter than everyone thought.”
Baldric stared at her.
“I never wanted this.”
“You could have ruled everything.”
“I wanted to fix cars.”
Elena laughed.
“That's why Grandfather chose you.”
She opened the trust.
Her smile vanished.
“What?”
Baldric smiled.
“You made one mistake.”
“What?”
“The document you wanted isn't the original.”
Elena's face changed.
“You…”
“It was a copy.”
Security lights suddenly flooded the building.
Federal agents surrounded the factory.
Elena turned.
Baldric continued:
“You thought I came alone.”
She raised her weapon.
But she didn't shoot.
She looked at Arianne.
Then Gideon.
Then Baldric.
“You wouldn't risk them.”
Baldric shook his head.
“No.”
He pressed a button.
A recording began playing through the factory.
Elena's confession.
Her threats.
Her admission that she ordered the injections.
Every word.
Elena's face went white.
“You recorded me.”
“You called me.”
“You tricked me.”
“No.”
Baldric looked at her.
“You underestimated me.”
Federal agents rushed forward.
Elena surrendered.
Roger and Derek were arrested soon afterward.
Baldric's mother was located at a private facility and taken into custody.
For the first time in decades, the Vance family secrets were exposed.
But there was one thing Baldric still had to do.
He ran toward Arianne.
He cut the restraints.
“Dad.”
He held her.
“You're safe.”
She began crying.
“I was so scared.”
“I know.”
Gideon ran into his arms.
Baldric held both of them.
For a moment, he couldn't speak.
Then Arianne whispered:
“I'm sorry.”
Baldric shook his head.
“No.”
“I should have told you sooner.”
“I should have asked sooner.”
She looked at him.
“I was afraid.”
“I know.”
He kissed her forehead.
“But you're not afraid anymore.”
She smiled through her tears.
“No.”
Months later, the Vance family empire changed completely.
The criminal divisions were dismantled.
The legitimate businesses were placed under independent oversight.
Baldric transferred the majority of his wealth into a family foundation.
Arianne became its director.
Gideon received a trust that would remain protected until adulthood.
And Baldric finally sold the mansion.
He bought a smaller house near the lake.
No gates.
No guards.
No marble staircase.
Just a garden.
A workshop.
And a wooden porch where his grandchildren could run barefoot.
But one secret remained.
The old garage.
Baldric kept it.
Not because he needed the money.
Because it reminded him of the man he had once been.
A mechanic.
A father.
A man who believed love was enough to protect a family.
May you like
He now knew love needed something else.
Courage.
