Chapter 11 - TERESA’S LETTER

The letter was real.

That hurt.

Teresa Bellandi had written:

I cannot care for both children while Antonio behaves this way.

If Elena is safe with Rosa, perhaps she should remain.

Elina cried.

Not because adoption itself was wrong.

Because fantasy changed.

She had started imagining both parents searching desperately.

Reality:

Father regretted.

Mother hesitated.

Complicated.

Then second page.

Francesca had not produced it.

Why?

Because it changed context.

Teresa continued:

This is temporary until I can leave Antonio.

Do not tell him where Elena is.

So Teresa wanted Elina safe.

Not erased.

She planned to reclaim after separating.

But Antonio later wanted child back too.

Then family reconciled?

Maybe.

Records show therapy?

No need.

What matters: both tried eventually.

Vincent and Matteo blocked.

Then Teresa wrote Rosa a letter.

Rosa never received?

It remained in Moretti archive.

To the woman caring for my daughter,

Please tell her I loved her before I knew her.

Elina cried for long time.

Rosa came.

They read together.

Rosa whispered:

“I would have let her see you.”

“Would you?”

She looked ashamed.

“I don’t know.”

Honest.

Then:

“I was afraid too.”

Elina nodded.

Fear again.

No simple saints.

Then Francesca apologized after seeing full record.

She paid restitution for vandalism.

Charges reduced through legal process.

Elina did not demand ruin.

Then Sorelle opened.

First night:

Sold out.

No mafia entourage.

Luca booked table like everyone else.

Noah had high chair.

He called:

“Lina!”

Every time Elina passed.

Customers laughed.

She pretended annoyance.

Then after close, Luca gave gift.

Elina frowned.

“What?”

“A photograph.”

Sofia.

Not glamour.

Sofia in kitchen with flour on face.

Elina laughed.

“She couldn’t cook?”

“She was attempting.”

“Terrible.”

“Yes.”

Then backside:

Sofia handwriting.

For Elena, if I ever become brave enough.

Elina’s eyes filled.

Luca said:

“This belongs to you.”

Good gift.

Not diamond.

Not money.

Memory.

Then he asked:

“Second date?”

She smiled.

“This is like date six.”

“Officially second.”

“Fine.”

They dated.

Slow.

Then Luca made mistake.

He bought building next to Sorelle.

Without telling Elina.

Why?

To prevent a rival linked to Moretti enemies from buying.

Protection.

She was furious.

“You did exactly what Sofia warned.”

His face fell.

“I thought—”

“Yes.”

She pointed.

“That phrase.”

He stopped.

Then sold purchase rights into independent trust and gave Elina first option at market value.

No gift.

Correction.

She declined.

Another buyer purchased.

Fine.

Luca learned something:

Good intention does not erase control.

Then, one year after opening, Elina’s trust litigation finalized.

Net assets restored:

$7.4 million plus property interests.

She stared at statement.

Then closed it.

Went to work.

Money changed security.

Not identity.

Then Luca came after close.

Noah asleep in stroller.

He looked nervous.

“What?”

“I have something to tell you.”

Elina braced.

“I’m leaving.”

Her heart dropped.

“For where?”

“Not you.”

He laughed softly.

“I’m stepping down from operational control of Moretti street operations.”

There.

He was choosing different life.

But consequences would follow.

May you like

Some people would resist.

And Luca was about to learn whether he could survive without being feared.
